Martinez not built for Big10?

SF said there was initially some positive news, but waiting until doctors have assessed it..

he's going to be dinged up, and yes, I'm concerned about his durability long term and think Bunch is going to play a lot this year.

Running option, with the only functional QB on your roster, could be considered questionable decision making.......

Montez took more of a beating than Martinez did in that game. He had a player land on his leg, something that can happen just as well in the pocket..

I agree. Watching the game your can tell he is not a physical player and will not last in the Big 10.
He is a finesse player. I agree and would even go so far as to say I don't think he's going to make it this year. I said last summer it would be Bunch playing, and so I'm hopeful for him. He was put in a tough position today to be thrown in at the end of the game. Matt Masker better learn that playbook.

And they have a QB room full of guys that turned out to be pretty good.

We haven't turned the roster over enough yet in game 1 of the first year.

So how does that cause concern about Frosts offense not holding up in the B1G?

If you don't have the players to run it.. guys are going to get injured, so depth is imperative.. even under the old Nebraska scheme, we had lots and lots of depth. Today, we just aren't there. SF has done an admirable job flipping the roster as much as he could in year 1, but we just aren't there yet. Ohio State won championships with their 3rd string guy.. guess what, we used to do stuff like that too during the 90's.. We just aren't there yet, so in this conference, we are going to get beat up, we better have quality depth.

We’re going to get beat up regardless of the offense we run, that is the point.

I'm not arguing that SF's offense won't work in the Big Ten. Show me where I was saying that. All I am saying is we don't have enough of the right players or depth to weather a season in the first year like things will become in time. There are still guys that don't fit this system on the team.

So what is the alternative? Frost will run his offense. He’s not gonna play scared. How should he play it?
huh? what are you talking about?

Maybe I misunderstood, but it seems as though you are saying we don’t have the horses to run this offense in the B1G. If we don’t, then what do we do differently? I assumed you were saying we shouldn’t run this offense yet, which led to my response.

Maybe you were suggesting we are gonna take our lumps now until we get that depth. If that’s what you were saying, I did misunderstand you. Apologies.

No problem, I was just talking about the depth issues and recalling how Ohio State won a title with a 3rd string QB, and we did something similar with Behringer and Matt Turman back in the glory days too.

We need time to build that depth is all, so I am actually pretty hopeful that Andrew Bunch is going to shine for us and help us get through the season.

I'm not arguing the needs of depth here, I agree with you on that. I was responding to how one could be concerned about a specific offense when similar are used all over college football with great success. Injuries will happen regardless. Hopefully when this offense is up and running it will allow us to throw backups in the game to develop so that our depth has experience.

A very similar offense is being used in Columbus as we speak and has been successful for several years now.

Their Qbs ware down over the season and usually the starting ends up playing while injured. Then, they stop running him as much.

Look at how many Qbs Maryland lost last season..

Im pretty sure SF doesn't have the depth needed to run option with 3 scholarship qbs, like Ohio State has had. Thats the difference.

Schools like Purdue and NW have two qbs who can start at any time. Pretty much 1a and 1b.

he's perfect for the big ten, throws great and can take off if needed. to keep d's honest, he just need to use all his options. but heck it's his first game since a junior in high school, I think he did great, no wonder gebbia ran

Listen, I love the Huskers, but if AMart is already getting dings this season is going to be lonnnngggg!

OMG...he was having some cramps and then he had his knee rolled on (or someone fell on it, which every it was). That’s not even close to saying he can’t handle the BIG10. The most durable player in the country will get hurt if they get that done to there knee.

Why? Because I am pointing out the obvious? Not true that if he is already hurt it's going to be a long season? The problem with these boards is that people like you revert to name calling. Seriously...grow up dude!

What you just stated is Martinez is soft. He's played one game and the only reason he got hurt was due to a dirty CU player. You're an idiot.

Martinez is built for big10. Running QBs just get hurt often. Conrad and Farniok better improve or hes gonna get hurt again

Whatever dude...plenty of people on these threads agree with me. Besides, I was only asking the question...you know, to create some debate. Don't be a Richard!
