I think, with all due respect and after hearing about this for a while now, that the beginning of the end was when the majority of TO's recruits and his influence left the program (i.e. Mcbride) . There was a semblance of TO's program, later, under FS, but recruiting suffered more and more as time went on. I remember reading about highly rated recruits being interested in NU early in the year, but FS could not close on most of them. Deangelo Evans probably being one of the exceptions to that. IMO it wasn't one game. That game was a symptom, not a cause. I realize this is subjective opinion and open for debate.
I despise what pederson did to the program, but his observations about recruiting were not totally inaccurate. The problem was he was convinced by his own ego that he was omnipotent, and couldn't correct the program because he let his own personality flaws get in the way resulting in his piss poor management. JMO
