Akron says only lodging within "reasonable distance" meant staying at multiple locations which was not ideal for their team. The game will be rescheduled if there is a possibility that it could make either team bowl eligible.

That is what I thought would happen if both teams need to be Bowl eligible.

It sounds like just one team would need an attempt at bowl eligibility on the line for the game to happen. That also means a 99% chance that Dec. 1 would be the date since it's likely that bowl eligibility won't be sorted out for either team before then.

It would really suck if we were 5-6 and Akron couldn't play us because they were in the MAC title game.

Or if we won the West and had to skip the B1G CCG in order to play a 5-win Akron team! Oh wait... lol

Maybe. I think it still has to be approved by both schools. IF we don't need it and we didn't pay Akron, it may not happen. On the flip side, IF Akron got paid and we need the game and they don't, don't expect them to come back for free.

Wouldn’t the NCAA have something to say about that?

We don’t know what Louisiana Monroe was paid to play FSU, I doubt 1.17 M but they had to go back to Tallahassee first week in December to make up for the cancelled game in September to get their 6 win.

Good question. Highly doubtful though. Conferences have control over their schools. But non con games is a little more on your own, and terms between the schools involved. NCAA stays out of those things and only looks at compliance and eligibility. Might get talked about in competition committee or something.

What I mean is the NCAA says you need 6 wins to be Bowl eligible, so if Nebraska needs to play that game that was canceled... If Akron says no we won’t play this game can the NCAA make them play so Nebraska can be Bowl eligible or does the NCAA give Nebraska a reprieve so to speak and allow them to play in Bowl with 5 wins because the game was cancelled ?

I was just responding to what was written ITT. I know it's not as simple as telling Akron they have to play because we need a 6th win. Still gotta work out the money and they're not going to travel again on their dime if we're the ones in need. If I'm Akron, I make Nebraska pay for having to get their butts kicked in an unexpected December road game.

It's out of the hands of the NCAA but if it comes down to Nebraska needing a win Delaney can make life miserable for Akron and the MAC if they choose to be butt heads.

Akron and the MAC need B1G money.

It would seem like a better idea to try to schedule a game with an FCS team now and have some certainty rather than gambling that Akron will come through later.

Problem with that is the 16 best teams already start the FCS playoffs Saturday after Thanksgiving..

We would be playing a team that would not be in the playoffs so maybe we can play Youngstown St..Laughing

Liberty U and Turner Gill the hot name right now to add a game (they moved up this year but can't play in a bowl).

Is there a reason that teams can't schedule a game a week after the conference championship games?

Army vs navy play that weekend, and theoretically, Navy could be playing in the conference championship game the week prior.

Why risk having to cancel it if one of the teams makes it to the conference title game?

To think all of this could have been solved had Akron just manned up and divided their team up at different hotels. I can’t imagine the Huskers were staying at a hotel room that night. I’d imagine they’d have all just went back to their dorms, apartments, and houses and stayed apart. They weren’t staying together, I’m sure. I know they normally do but I’m guessing they weren’t going to Saturday night

Don’t they stay at multiple locations every other night of the week? I get team unity but come on man. But how much unity do you need when all you are doing is sleeping? Akron left town without a loss and that to them was a win. That’s the bottom line. I hope we play them in December so our boys can beat the crap out of them for having to mess up so many peoples schedules.

I’d have given them a pass if their only hotel option was to drive to Omaha. That would have been hard on them
