Akron called the hotel where they stayed on Friday night and there were not enough rooms available and they decided it was in their best interest to go home! It is what it is people. This is not on Moos or anyone else. It was just plain bad luck! PERIOD!!!!

Make 10 calls to farmers between Lincoln and Omaha.
Abundant rooms, I'm sure.

Somebody had to tell Fox that the game was rescheduled for Sunday morning. I don't think they just made that up on their own.

What if Akron's plane would have been unable to depart due to storms? Probably should have had a contingency plan for lodging several days ago based on the weather forecasts.

It has already been said NU would/could have provided lodging for Akron, even if the above was the case regarding their hotel .
Akron took their ball and check and went home.

Pansies.

But how did they fly out anyway....the storms didn't stop until between 1-3 in the morning? Where were they until 3....

And what accommodations were those that they turned down?

I guess we need better attorneys from now on setting up these payout games.
I'm sure that there were weather contingencies that stated that if the game was cancelled due to weather they still got paid. Perfect storm for Akron. Got to see the tunnel walk and walk out of Lincoln without getting a bunch of players hurt. I don't blame them.

They had some type of housing/dorms or something on campus that was offered up for them to stay at.

But it certainly wasnt cots in a gym type of scenario.

Some type? All together? Spread out around campus? Secluded or among current UNL students?

I’m not doubting you but I’ll believe there was a workable plan when I see it on paper.

Article didn’t really say that “everything was squared away” but at least it sounds like NU was exhausting all options to make the game happen. Akron just took its ball and went home.

I’m sure more information will still come out.

I think the only thing they could have done was bus them to Omaha and that wouldn't have been fair to their kids IMO. Life isn't fair sometimes and this time we got shorted a little bit of football. We got to see the best part of the whole show with the tunnel walk. Loved it and would spend the money and drive the 3 hours again to see that first tunnel walk with Frost.

Trust me, the last thing Moos, Frost, and the administration wanted was for the game not to happen. Last night was going to be Nebraska's version of a GIANT Hollywood premier extravaganza, Husker style. On to cu now.

Yeah, you are right. That description was from another author, obviously in error.

A contingency could have been planned last Wednesday when the forecasts were pretty clear that Saturday night would be a wash. They could have worked on a commitment from Akron for a Sunday kickoff, had plans for lodging and transportation...and I am sure they were thinking about it. The reality is once the game starts the only person that gets the shaft is the fans. NU got their tickets paid for, and their concessions bought, Akron will get their payout...the last thing that greedy *** college football personnel want to do is foot the bill for another night of lodging, pay for 3000 staff to come to stadium to work, pay for another charter flight, and still risk it getting rained out again. There was zero chance that game was going to ever be played sunday...even if Frost and Moos had their hearts in the right place...they would basically be doing it for free.

Bad idea, and big letdown rescheduling for that early on a Sunday.

Sunday kick no good. Kids would have been spent, game would have been too early, just an overall bad idea.

If some people think it was just a matter of Moos waving a magic wand and pulling a rabbit out of a hat, maybe they should think again.

That's why you plan for these things ahead of time, instead of scrambling after the storm has already hit. It should have stated in the contract with Akron whether or not they would reschedule for the next day based on inclement weather. If Akron said in the contract that they do not agree to reschedule, then there is no controversy.

Especially for the road team who’s accommodations were at least suspect at this point.

Some of the volunteers drive in from my home town 3 hours away and then drive home after every game. You're talking ushers etc. Concession workers, ticket takers, security etc etc etc. There's no way in hell they could have had the game with people in the stands by 10:30 am. No way.

The only thing that sucked for Akron is they had to travel before the cancellation.

If there is any logical solution here, it is to KICK EARLIER SATURDAY on a weather contingency, given a little forethought (i.e. Akron flies in early enough to do it) and a solution for Fox.

You guys should know, Huskers were playing primetime out here on Fox. The backup was Baylor. Nebraska with Frost was primetime TV in the Southeast, and that is rare given Akron as an opponent.

Who trusts a weather forecast three days out? Plus at that point it was 50/50 if storms would happen.

I worked the CWS when game 3 was delayed due to weather. Logistical nightmare. The people who work concessions, security, ticket scanners, police, etc, a lot do that as 2nd jobs. It isn’t easy to try to fill those spots for an unexpected game the next day.

Now you are talking about a stadium that holds a most 4 times as many people, and playing 12 hours later, not 24. Good luck.

Agree 100%. Doesn't seem like anyone was doing anything to get this game played until an hour or so into the lightning delay.

If this storm came out of nowhere I'd completely understand. But it was well known in advance and nobody started to do anything until it was too late.

this seems to have ended up being a huge nightmare for almost everyone, but Akron. They got their money, got out of town unscathed, got to experience a big time pregame, didn't get struck by lightning, didn't get beat up, etc.
They won the lottery no doubt. God was just reminding us who's in charge. That's all. The atmosphere for CU is going to be crazy. I couldn't believe what it was like last night. WOW!

Like others have said, on Wednesday or at the latest Thursday, start making a backup plan so this game could possibly be played on Sunday.
