If true, another 4 Star that never panned out.
He was a four star in rating only, but not a four star prospect. OU and others backed away from him after supposed offers. But the internet ratings sites still liked him and on paper, this signing made Coach Cav look good even though Cav never gave him the time of day once Barnett got on campus.

Hope he is able to heal from the injuries he sustained over his career. Too bad he didn’t become what he could have been on the field.

Will be medical retire to keep the scholly and finish st UNL?

Now at 81 scholarship players. 16 seniors. 3 oversigning limit. Current class size is 23.

There are 7-8 other sophomores and juniors who probably wouldn’t be very big surprises if they also eventually left before signing day, so the 25 class size should be no issue.

It seems like most top 10 programs are recruiting 23-26 on average in any given year. There are some outliers that sign 30, or only sign 19 but have 4-6 five star kids. But for the most part it seems to be successful recruiting you have to have a good mix of talent and volume.

Signing Blades was stupid, but signing Watts and Canty was worth the risk.

Signing 4 star Barnett was dumb, because everyone else was backing off. But signing 2/3 star Anderson was brilliant.

Barnett was a "4 star that never panned out" but signing a 2 star like Will Jackson who had already been at 3 different schools well that was worth it.

Lamar Jackson is a 4 star prima donna from Cali, Will Jackson is a 2 star from wherever. Yet Will Jackson bolted because he didn't like his place in the pecking order, Lamar Jackson is starting and improving every day.

huh who knew?

Unfortunate to have any kid wind up with an injury-plagued career. Never seemed to be able to break through. Best of luck to him.

Should be several scholarships available for senior walk-ons for this year. Gonna be a pretty big class by the time it's said and done.

so 3 guys leaving today ...this roster overhaul is gonna be quick
I don't think it's necessarily a good thing that this is happening right before the season starts. Cornerback is still a position of concern and we can use all the depth we can get. The WR might not contribute much this year, but he looked to have a lot of talent and I think he's in a situation that's not really his fault.

I see the hypocrisy but the I do see a difference in signing Blades vs singing Watts & Canty. And to be fair, you should really group Washington with Watts & Canty. That first year in, recruiting is just trying to fill up a class and gotta take some chances on guys. In the case of Washington, it worked out. In the case of Watts & Canty, it did not. Hell, wasn't Watts almost a guarantee and Washington was a no-chance? Funny how that flipped.

Just saying with Blades, that's Riley's 3rd class. Not his first class.

Lamar's a prima donna but Canton Ohio has many statues of prima donnas. Lets just hope he starts to back it up on Saturdays from now on.

And for the record, signing Barnett was fine and this board was actually very excited about it. I did not hear one guy complain. Cav was just not a good coach or at least at the standards of NU offensive lineman football. IMO even a guy like Foster Sarell would have never developed properly under Cav. He never held his lineman accountable in the weight room. We can already see the difference between a guy that does.

Yeah, I have a feeling some of these kids aren't use to working hard the last few years. I think that is what Frost and Co wanted to do.
Come in change the culture rapidly. Either kids get on board now or there is the door. Doesn't matter your stars or rankings or if you were a starter. Kids that want to be here, will and those who don't wont.

I don't see the difference in 1st class vs 20th class. You take a chance on a guy like Blades because, like Washington, he could be a difference maker.

Sorry I didn't word my comment about Lamar Jackson correctly. Yes he is a Prima Donna but people on this board constantly talk about we don't need players like that and we need more lower rated guys with "heart". In this case, the 2 star was a bigger prima donna.

I agree signing Barnett was a good move, but typical on this board, more hypocrisy. People were backing off Barnett and it is a bad thing, but players who don't have any P5 offers, are defended as "sleepers". Point is, some work, some don't.

Man he certainly did not. Just looking at Gates on Saturdays and being like, "Wait...you're telling me this guy uses one of the best weightlifting and nutrition facilities in the world?" was all you needed to know. What a God-awful line after all the noise we made about Cav and Milt being friends. "Oh, Milt's at practice, start frying up the pancakes, boys!!!" Couldn't move a smart car if you left it in neutral.

We'll see about Watts. If he had very similar test scores both times I'd be a bit surprised if he doesn't move along so long as they don't find something crazy like he didn't take his own test. Sucks that he can't get in camp while they drag their feet, but with the new RS rule they have time to sort him out if he gets cleared.

I always took Milt’s seal of approval with a grain of salt. Milt knew his time on earth was coming to an end and he only had love in his heart. Kind of hard to seriously evaluate football when you are battling leukemia. I’m sure when Melt would be at practice watching Cav, he was more thinking of the past vs the present.

Cav only had Milt’s Seal of approval going for him. That’s it. Cav was the worst Husker coach on the worst Husker coaching staff in modern times.

Man, did you ever think you'd see a line so bad that Barney Cotton would be an upgrade?
