Decision coming today or tomorrow most likely.

I think he should be fired, and probably will be. Thoughts?

With what’s going on at Maryland, I think it’s possible UM gets fired.

But at this point I don’t think it likely. I feel like enough time has passed that they are trying to find a way to keep him.

He knew the whole time, and this guy was a real piece of ****.

I agree with Timnsun, I think with this crap going down at Maryland where all of those guys just got fired, and the other problems in the league dating back to Penn State, UM gets canned today or tomorrow. Its not just what he did wrong, which was be his usual oily, reptilian self, but its also a matter of perception for the Big Ten.

If he doesn't get hung out to dry, the PR blow-back on tOSU is going to be savage, and I don't think they want any more of that than they absolutely have to take.

I dont believe that OSU cares about public outcry. U Cowboy wins games and that is practically all that matters to Ohio State

I wouldnt surprise me now if he was fired. Why?

After he threw his AD under the bus and circled the wagons with all going after Courtney Smith I thought "smart move Urb, you're likely safe again ya slimey bastard."

But it was weird watching BTN the other day while they were in Lincoln talking about Frost and ALL the other Big 10 coaches. Not ONE mention of Urban (or DJ Durkin for that matter). Now they likely were just hedging their bets and not talking about Urb until this is all figured out. Or do they know something? Unlikely but one can hope.

4 game grounding, err I mean suspension.

That would be the bare minimum, and I'm trying to say I don't think tOSU is going to appreciate the amount of bad press they're going to get if they do that. And I think the administrators are well aware of that.

He stays, and the outcry isn't going to be as large as everyone thinks.
So you think it'll just be like a 4 game suspension or something?

If thats the case, this entire season will be dominated by "Oh, look at Ohio State winning, with a coach who is human scum and a giant hypocrite." literally every Saturday. That's why I'm thinking tOSU gets rid of him. He is never going to totally live a scandal like this down, and the linkage between this and what he did to Florida makes it all the more a dominant story line.

Suspension up until any of the games that really matter. He'll be back for PSU.

My hunch...the suspension will only keep him away on gameday. He'll be able to participate during the weeks.

werent there NCAA sanctions with Tressel though? As far as I know, the NCAA isnt involved here.

With that said, Domestic Violence (and covering up/looking the other way) is on a whole different level than free tatoos.
See that's true too. The severity of the crime here is worse, though it doesn't explicitly violate NCAA rules. And more comes out about that guy every day it seems like. He was a real nutbag and piece of **** to his wife. And UM knew about it the whoooole time.

Remember, there has, at the very least, been a Title 9 violation, plus a lot of spinning and cover-up.

Actually, the season will be dominated by that team winning a lot, and unless Urban attempted a cover up and lied to school officials (and as far as we know that didn't happen), he hasn't given them a reason to fire him IMO. Now did he give them a reason to be disappointed in him? Yes, but the biggest thing he's guilty of, that we know of right now, is employing a scumbag and lying to the media. Not a firable offense when you're as good at what you do as Urban is. We'd be defending his right to keep his job if he were our coach, don't act like we wouldn't.

For those of you saying he'll keep his job, what are the reasons why?

Obviously, he wins a lot. Anything else?

tosu (no capitol letters), is going to say that he did
inform his AD, and the only thing he did wrong was
get a little confused at the question that the journalist
asked, and he did not understand the question.
With that said, tosu Board will suspend him one game
in the future, when they are scheduled to play Slippery
Rock State Teachers College.
As for the AD, he thought UM was talking about the
incident while at Florida. He gets a raise!

If that’s all true, why would they suspend him for even one game?

If memory serves, apples to oranges. With JT, there were lies and cover ups to the administration.

As opposed to lies and cover ups to the administration in this case?

Smith felt the pressure to fire Tressel because they didn't want further backlash. Yes there were NCAA violations that dated back to 2002, but if Ohio St was "all about winning" they could have found a way to keep him. They had already suspended him for the same length of time the players were suspended.

In reality, Tressel pretended he didn't know what the players were doing, didn't forward documentation to the administration, and lied about what he knew.

Meyer, pretended he didn't know what his coach was doing, lied about what he knew, allegedly he told the administration. I have my doubts that he actually did that though.

The only thing different was the crime.

Smith also knew when he finally canned Tressel that Urban was there for the taking once he did so. There are no options like Urban waiting in the wings, unless maybe Stoops wants to come out of retirement.

I guess, I dont know that I would go so far to say that Ohio St went ahead and fired Tressel simply because Meyer, who had retired 6 months earlier, due to health reasons, might be available.

If Meyer is fired, that would be two coaches in a row terminated for covering up stuff within the program.

I just have to believe if there was a smoking gun they could use to fire him, there would be no need for a 3 or 4 day review of the report.

Unless they were trying to come up with the money to buy him out so they could avoid more dirty laundry from getting aired out, I fully expect him to be on the sidelines this season.

We don't know what the investigators found and what will make it into the report. But from what has made it to the press so far: urban meyer knew, Urban Meyer reported incident to his boss, urban Meyer lied about knowing. If above comes out in the official report, Urban Meyer keeps his job and the AD falls on the sword. IF the above is true, uhem, is in the official report.

I guess I don't remember the timeline of Tressel getting canned. Was it in summer or close to the season? I assumed it was as that is why they just named Fickle interim coach. Maybe I am wrong.

It was the end of May. Close enough that a complete coaching change wasn't feasible. Mainly, I just remember that it seemed like a foregone conclusion among talking heads that getting Meyer would be priority #1 for tOSU.

tOSU has a couple BIG hurdles to pass before they could fire Urb. Procedure/policy states that IF he reported the domestic abuse to his superior that he should take no further action. That is a truck load of burden that the university has to clear to fire with cause. If they fire without cause, they are on the hook for 8mil a year which I cannot see happening, especially with his success.

#2 is if they fire him with/ or without cause, the fans and donors will be lighting torches due to his winning. If he had the record of Maryland's programs, he would have been fired already. They will lose a lot of money, more, if they get rid of him, than if they keep him. Money drives this decision in all cases.
