That's not noteworthy, that would describe almost every player in our program.

Agreed. And should't we support almost every player in our program?

I just don't get people enjoying failure for someone that caused no problems and was just like "almost every player in our program".

If the guy crapped on the "N" in the middle of Memorial stadium I would get it, but he really did nothing that warrants the joy in his failure.

I dont blame Lee as much as I blame the media for basically touting him as the next Tom Brady. I have no idea what these guys were watching in practice but they dropped the ball hard and put Tanner in a position to be vilified by the fan base. Hype like that is going to come with serious criticism when it falls flat on its face and Tanner didnt create the hype. It was created by a bunch of guys who clearly had no clue what they were talking about.

So since Billy Devaney said Lee was going to be awesome, we have carte blanche to wish failure on Lee? Ok. I would rather direct my wishing failure on players who quit on the team. But that’s just me

Isn't staying out of trouble expected? As a fan I appreciate he gave his best effort but I wouldn't lavish praise for off the field stuff unless it's noteworthy. Did he graduate?
Who was "lavishing praise"? I said he "acted with class" off the field. That is "lavishing praise"? Really-does someone have to do something "noteworthy" off the field for us to say good things about them? You're the one that used the term "noteworthy"-why don't you tell us what it is you're looking for, so we can know just what it is someone needs to do so we know which players we're supposed to pull for in their professional career and which ones it's OK to make fun of.

Let me help you out...it is 100% fine to make jokes...it is 100% fine to back a player. It is all good. Relax.

yes, but these jokes are intentionally malicious for no apparent reason.
Malicious? Maybe, depends who you are I guess.

No apparent reason? I don't think so, the reason of the joke is to be funny. You might not find it funny but someone probably did. I did, I am sure others did as well. We still get posters that post pictures of Bo freaking out or with piss on his pants...clearly some people think it is funny.

Oh-I see, it's just "making jokes". It's OK to wish failure on and ridicule former players because it's just "making jokes". Thanks for clearing that up. Glad to know you can say anything bad about anybody no matter who they are and defend it by saying you were just "making jokes".

Nebraska hasn't had a QB in the NFL in 40 years, so count me as one who won't be laughing at his struggle. When Nebraska is in a recruiting battle for a top quarterback, what is the first thing the opposing coaches use against them?

We want all of our guys to be successful in the pros, because high school recruits dream of NFL glory not undergraduate degrees in exercise science.

Depends on the style of offense though. You think a QB going to Navy or GT cares if they put QB's in the NFL or not? They know what/who they are.

makes sense. You are jealous that a Riley quarterback has the opportunity to try make a living playing football and that gets you all ruffled. Very childish.

Yes! See, you are doing it! You are attacking me and I am totally fine with it, not a problem at all. Just like you don't need to worry when people make jokes about your boyfriend Riley and your lover Lee. It is okay!

Honestly, I am more jealous of Mike "The Human Lotto Ticket" Riley.

How about "I hope Scott's wife and son get in a flaming car crash so that he can focus more on football"?

It's just a joke. ;)

Every player gets criticized when they make bad plays on the field, on every team at every level of football - even if they are good guys off the field. Especially at QB. It's part of the territory. Scott Frost knows that better than anyone. So does Tommy Armstrong, Taylor Martinez, Joe Dailey, Sam Keller, Jammal Lord, etc.

I don't think anyone is criticizing Tanner Lee's character or is happy to see him fail. But the fact is he has no business being in an NFL uniform. Look at what Jaguar writers and fans are saying:

Not what I said. I said the criticism and hate should be directed towards those that created the hype not towards Lee who by all counts did everything to the best of his abilities

Ha! Think of all the extra time he would have to work on new plays!

Shoot, some people had him going 1/1 in the draft. The hype was insane...mostly because of the Human Lotto Ticket and Billy Deveany

I don’t remember anyone EVER claiming he was going to be 1/1 in the draft. What I remember reading was Archy Manning claimed Lee had the potential to be a first rounder (and that was it). The rest was on US FANS, we took that and flipped it into what ever we wanted to say, feel or hear. In no sense should Tanner Lee be punished, hated or hoped to fail because of it. He’s a dam Husker and he did his best. We had lousy coaches and with both teams horrible Oline to protect him. He’s got a great arm on him, has the perfect NFL size but unfortunately for him...a great arm and NFL size doesn’t translate to a great NFL career. I hope nothing bad or anything ill against him. I hope some how, someway things work out and at least finds away to be a 2nd or 3rd string QB in the NFL for what ever team. The young man was all class.

I do remember people claiming it.

I hope the guy makes a billion dollars in the NFL...I just don't care if people make fun of him or not on a message board. You don't care either...it is not like you go home and sit there stressing and crying that he was made fun of.

We are definitely different there. I don’t remember seeing even one person claiming 1st round 1st pick. I do remember seeing 1st round talks but never 1st pick.

I wonder what Twitter geniuses would have said about Scott during the '96 ASU or '97 UCF games.

I was flipping through the channels and the local NBC had the Saints and Jaguars game on and Lee was just put in the game. Wasn’t very pretty he was off on every throw and then got sacked 3 times and strip sacked by a DE as he brought it back to throw and recovered by the Saints. I wish the kid well but it wasn’t a pretty start to his NFL career.
I can see him on a nfl scout team, but that is about it. He is just to inconsistent. Has been his whole college career. Why anyone thinks that will change in the pros is beyond me.
