Quick Observations
  • True freshman Dominick Watt is not on the roster. Scott Frost said last week that he was optimistic Watt would academically qualify and make it to campus for camp, but it apparently hasn't happened yet. I suspect will get more information on that today following post-practice availability.
  • Mitchell Balenger, who joined the program as a walk-on from Fork Union Military Academy in July, made the cut on the offensive line. Trent Hixson, a redshirt freshman walk-on from Omaha is also on the list as is true freshman AJ Forges.
  • Bit of a surprise to see Nebraska use up two spots on long snappers, particularly when you consider that Damian Jackson did some work there in the spring. Jackson is among the defensive linemen in camp.
  • Safeties galore. Nebraska has 11 in camp, including listing true freshman Cam Jones and CJ Smith at the position as expected.
  • Talented walk-on Moses Bryant, a star running back at Elkhorn South, is listed with the cornerbacks.

Love what I’m hearing about M Washington. I thought the kid look like that game changer. Maybe our next great back.

I don't know about anyone else, but I tell you what... I haven't been this excited for Husker football since about 1999. I went to my first game in 1965 with my dad. He was a firefighter and in those days, off duty firefighters got to be ushers. So he got me in. I was in awe and have never looked back. Something special about Husker football that is found nowhere else. I don't care what anyone says. That is true.

GBR. Looking forward to a great year!

I’m hoping he’s our next next great back, after Tre Bryant... love having him back and healthy. Hope he can maintain it.

I wish I could say this as well, but as an eternal optimist I was VERY excited last year st this time as well. Lee was gonna light it up and make his claim as a first round draft pick, Diaco was a defensive genius that was gonna transform our defense... what a letdown.

But I’m with you! My excitement level is at a very high level!

Ha. I know. I was optimistic last year too. But not nearly as excited as I am with this staff.
I really think Frost is the real deal.

Oh yeah, my first game was somewhere in the late 1960s.....I remember F. Patrick was the qb. Just like you, I could hardly even grasp how great it was. Then 1970 & 71 when the Jet, Kinney, Tagge, etc, etc, was there.....100% pure magic. Total addiction for life.

Yep, maybe after Devaney & TO we both were horribly spoiled. We payed the big price of watching Clownahan & Smiling Mike getting cremated everywhere. Bo wasn't nearly as bad as those two but surely wasn't a great HC.

But now, it's payback in spades for us old timers.......GBR!!

In 1971 I saw every home game by climbing the fence and watching the game from under the end zone. Hilarious to remember that you could actually get into a game that way

There is a difference, in years past fans had to ignore the signs and convince themselves everything is good. In part just being a fan, but this time around all the signs point to good things or mostly good. I am still concerned about defense just a little

I was on the field today. Pretty awesome to see it empty and then think about how important the program is to the thousands that fill those seats every year.

I was too. Riley finally had his own players for his system and the Bo holdovers were gone from the locker room.

Casual observation, but it really does seem like most players are physically much better put together than a year ago, matching the oft-reported theme of S&C gains. This should pay big dividends during the season.
We were physically outmatched in so many games last year it was disgusting. Combined with “iowa-mole sabotage” schemes, there was a recipe for vomit on the field.

Despite new schemes/building chemistry, the sheer physicality of this team will give us a chance.
Offensively, speed and toughness will be improved. Defensively, I’m hoping to see greater team speed paired with some more beastly blackshirt bodies.

And the fact that they're going to play with motivation and passion.

Ditto on all of the above!

and I am not smart enough to learn from the past... I think we will surprise the world this year and kick some major butt.
