Fan black out

Last year Nebraska decided to go with a fan black out when playing Wisconsin, similar to what Penn St does with their white out. From a camera view it didn’t get the desired effect and hope we don't do it again. I’m ok with a red out because that is who we are just as a white out is who Penn St is.

I don’t remember doing all this stuff back in day. We just showed uo in varying degrees of inebriation and left at half or the 3rd Q depending in how bad the blowout was. If we travelled, it was basically another home game for us against many teams. We wore whatever the hell we wanted as long as it was NU colors. The older folks wore polyester red trousers, white shoes and shirts and red/white flat caps.

In my day, we didn't have any of this rock n' roll stuff. We had Lawrence Welk... that's the way it was and we liked it!

When returning from the service, I wore Red pants, white shoes, white shirt (still have that-husker embro )
on front, jacket with Nebraska on back, and cowboy hat, with red pin. Ya, I still have all of t hat, but, some apparel just doesn't fit. GBR.

How far to we want to go back to stick with "tradition" Tradition is in the eye of the beholder. Some say "we can't change uniforms we need to stick with tradition" Ok well back to leather helmets? Back to Red helmet of the 50s, white helmets with numbers from the early 60s? NU during the late 60's. The little N from 70's to current? If it just the current tradition why is this tradition so important from the past tradition
Some people get to caught up on "tradition" and never ever changing. Nebraska "tradition" has changed a ton over the years. So saying we can't go away from tradition is just hypocritical. Unless of course you want to go back to leather helmets and being called the bug eaters. lol

Don't be silly.

I think most would say "traditional NU" would be from 1970-present, when we ran out of "U" logos to put on our helmets. EDIT: Just happened to be the same year as our first MNC.

EDIT: I'm torn on the pants stripes. Went away from them from 1995-2003. Just don't bring back the 2002 uniforms.

I agree, but my point was for people to not get so hung up on tradition and change. Things unfortunately change. If that change in tradition helps us win then who cares.

This grassroots, fan-started **** never works. I agree that a blacked out Memorial would look cool, but short of the University putting a black t-shirt on every seat, it's not going to happen. Not ever.

The blackout idea needs to go away and die already. Why?

1. It never works. So there's that see.

2. Colors are not intimidating to opponents anyway. Noise is. So how about a "blue hair" purge for one of the big games?

3. No visiting fan or team gives a ****.

4. We are called "The Big Red" for a reason. We chant "Go Big Red" for a reaason.

5. Black is not a school color. Yes, we have "the blackshirts" and the color black has become legitimately associated with our defense. But how about we wait then until we actually field a defense that isn't an utter f$cking embarrassment to the entire blackshirts tradition?
