And ill laugh my a$$ off if and when Gebbia wins this QB battle. Wow, how badly some of you guys have hated on this kid. I’m all for A. Martinez too but I have never given up on Gebbia either. Seeing everyone hate on Gebbia has only pushed me to root even harder for this young man Gebbia to win this battle. His only knock has been his weight, even Frost said that same.

Martinez may win the battle, but it's not like Gebbia has lost the job. UCLA had a stick at qb and now he's in the NFL.

Hate? I disagree, We have a group of Martinez supporters and a group of Gebbia supporters much like most qb battles of the past. Berringer vs Frazier, Newcombe vs Crouch, Joe Dailey vs Stuntz, Harrison Beck vs Zac Taylor, Joe Ganz vs Sam Keller, Zac Lee vs Cody Green. The list goes on and on.

Yeah... but UCLA was garbage the entire time he was there and he never really played very well. His best year was as a freshman and they still lost to Riley's squad in the bowl game and looked like crap... they went 4-8 the next season.. and they were 6-7 last year. Yeah he's in the NFL but he didn't set the world on fire in college.

I would say it was more of a team thing than a QB thing. Am I wrong?

I think it was a bit of both. Not going to say I watched a ton of their games but he never really impressed me that much. He can "make all the throws" but so could Tanner Lee. Looks like he had some good statistical games and some pretty bad ones... notably a 3 interception game in a loss against Arizona (who was 110th in scoring defense last year).

Looks like the end of his sophomore year was lost to injury... they were 3-3 when he went down and ended the year 4-8.

Why are you trying to create drama when there is none? I think I can speak for nearly every person in this forum when I say "We want the one as determined by the coaching staff to be the best for our chances of winning," and that's it.

Honestly...what person with a normal psychiatric profile could "hate on Gebbia?" For goodness sakes, the kid spends every free moment of his time trying to become the best QB he can be in this offense. No one dislikes Gebbia. No one dislikes Martinez. Some may think that one or the other is a better runner or passer. We just want a good starting QB...period. Loosen up...the world isn't one big conspiracy theory.

Exaggerate much? Give me a true example of someone "hating" on Gebbia? This is a message board and people have favorites who they are pulling for. That doesn't mean they "hate" the other guy. The reality is there likely no way either one starts and finishes the year as the main starter due to injury, wear and tear and just feeling their way as young players in a new system. Go ahead and laugh if it makes you feel better.

This is exactly what I was thinking too. Why are people trying to create a divide?

Yeah, I don't see it that way. A lot of people just want to declare Martinez the starter because he's Frost's guy and Gebbia was Riley's. If you actually read what huskerssalts has written he's just saying that too many of you are already crowning Martinez when in reality Gebbia has done nothing to lose the battle for the position.

I kind of get the impression that the coaching staff is going to weigh their decision on ability to think. Being bigger, faster or whatever rational you want to think is more important only takes you as far as your ability to think and make the right calls. Especially when neither have taken a collegiate snap. I'm probably wrong though.

i will be surprised if both guys don't get a shot to show what they can do early in the season. If history shows us anything, we are going to need at least 2 QBs and often 3 to get through the season and then from there who knows.

Most teams do. It sounds like they have completely different skills though. That could be good to keep opponents guessing, but could be difficult from a practice stand point since the offense might have to be run differently for the different QBs. Cal tried this one year when they got Rubenzer who was their highly touted running QB. It didn't really work and Rubenzer is now their safety after they choose 1 direction.

What's going on in this photo? Why is Greg Bell lined up facing the rest of the team?

Exactly. And how many seasons over the last 15 years have we had only one real choice at QB? Joe Dailey, Joe Ganz, Taylor Martinez, Tommy Armstrong, Tanner Lee. We were one hit away from total disaster. If the starter went Bauserman, there was no other choice but stick with him.

How nice would it be to have a couple of viable backups? Someone to take a series if the starter were really struggling, and needed to take step back with the coaches to get his head right. Someone who could carry the season if the starter went down. Someone to gain valuable game experience, so we'd have some great options when the starter exhausted eligibility. Wouldn't that be nice?

As long as someone doesn't get slammed for being too big and thick. I really feel for those that are being attacked for that, because I get so tired of hearing it from women.*

*Proof that the male gender never grows up, and that big d*ck jokes are always good clean silly fun.
