If they do make a change they can get about anyone they want to get, they just might have to wait for this season to play out first.
I agree...the problem is they will be replacing Meyer...this would be almost like Bama replacing Saban...sure they can get anyone...but anyone isn't going to be Meyer.

There is not one name out there that will give the fanbase a huge erection

What will the market in Buckeye transfers look like? As for the next coach, I'm going to say Schiano gets the interim gig and has the interim label removed before the season is over.

I think you're right. There's nobody else in the ranking of Saban & Meyer. Perhaps to some degree our SF But he's ours. It's going to be rough sledding for the Buckeye fans.

I know people think everyone wants to job jump...but really with salaries how they are for these coaches the job jumping might not be as big of a pull. I mean...if ISU says "Here Matty, 10 years, 50 million" and OSU says "Here Matty, 5 years 33 million" I mean, why leave?

But you make a good point about Dan and Paul...sometimes you have to strike with the iron is hot

For the same reasons Frost left a good thing at UCF for Nebraska - the chance to compete for national championships while also being close to family back home. I guess the difference is Campbell didn't play at OSU, but he is from there and spent almost his whole life there. And he wouldn't have to rebuild OSU - he could compete for a National Title in Year 1. Those opportunities don't come around too often.

And let's face it, Ohio State is one of the Top 5 coaching jobs in college football. It's probably even in the Top 2 coaching jobs in the country. They're the only major program in a state with tons of in-state talent. Since 2002 they've played in 13 BCS Bowls. At Iowa State, you're in a the middle of BFE Iowa trying to compete against better programs in Texas and Oklahoma. I don't think ISU has ever won more than 8 games in a season in history.

I hope Campbell does stay there because I like Iowa State, but if you're a competitive coach who wants to win championships, how could you turn down Ohio State to stay in Ames?

The one thing to remember is the reason for Urban's firing, should it happen. To me, that would seem to preclude hiring anybody from within the current staff as a replacement. Guilt by association. It also implies that the whole staff, as at PSU, will have to go. Who else knew and said nothing? And so on....

Does OSU take a chance on an up and comer coach like Campbell who has done well at a dipshit program, or do they go big and throw millions at someone like Hermann?

i agree Tom Herman leaves the Big 12 & Texass for The Ohio State
The Big question would be if Herman knew about Zach Smith when he was at OSU. If Herman did know then he to would have been mandated to report what he knew to authorities. So if UM is fired I doubt they bring back someone who was associated with the program during Meyers tenure, imo.

While I’m sure there were more than one instances, the night of the alleged dispute was in October of 2015. Herman was coaching Houston at that point in time

I understand that but this all dates back to 2009 and most coaches wives were made aware of what had taken place over the years, so perhaps he knew about it as well. The problem stems from the fact that UM hired him back in 2012 so any one associated with the program with Urban may be guilty by association.

I bet Mike Riley has one more “last” adventure in him. He can also bring sprinkles to hand out to the players when they demonstrate good behavior.

Careful - you will hurt some sensitive feelings of some posters who really love Mikey.

Lane Kiffin would be interesting at OSU.
My bet is on him or Fuente. Like I said in the other thread, he knows exactly how Saban thinks. I don't see Campbell leaving ISU, I see him as a Shaka Smart type of coach-bigger program sometime down the road.

Well for sure the next OSU head coach won't be either Wilson or Schiano - both of them have skeletons in their backgrounds. Schiano of course recently was torn to pieces by the Tennessee fan base for allegedly knowing about the Penn State sex scandal. And Wilson was embroiled in controversy as a head coach for abusing players. Neither of them were considered as interim OSU head coach for those reasons and would not get a sniff as a candidate for permanent head coach at OSU. They're only currently employed at OSU because Urban wanted them and whatever Urban wanted, he got. At least until now.

when this all started coming down---then listening to all the chatter about meyer not surviving this, Bob Stoops was the first name that came to mind. i would be quite surprised if the "powers that be" wouldn't at least talk to him and gauge his interest. now, Stoops taking the job would be the big question---my gut tells me he wouldn't. on to Campbell...

I don't know. Stoops seems to be enjoying retirement and his dad dies of a heart attack while coaching. I think he stays on the sideline.

Living in Columbus, Campbell is a viable option. If Day has a successful season, 11-3 or better, he would certainly have a chance to be hired. I don't see Schiano/Wilson as options since they didn't get the interim job. This is Schiano's last year in Columbus since he will probably get a head coaching job next year. I keep hearing Bob Stoopes name mentioned. I don't know the story behind his leaving Oklahoma. I'm sure there is a lot of pressure to win at Oklahoma but I have to believe the pressure to win In Columbus is even greater. At 57, does Stoopes have the energy/desire to I take the job. How long would he want to coach? I think the administration would be looking at younger candidates.

Matt Campbell. Ohio boy. Young up and coming coach. tOSU AD Gene Smith was former AD at ISU. I think Matt has a $10 million buy out the first year. Obviously the Buckeyes could afford that. Not the first Cyclones coach to go to tOSU. Earl Bruce did so after being head coach at Ames.
