His playcalling has been very impressive with the distribution of the ball. The players seem to understand what he wants to do at such an early stage of the offenses implementation is amazing. Our recievers have been running crisp clean routes and Tommy has been throwing to spots. This is why Riley's hire was golden.

I didn't watch Miami play, but 40 seems optimistic. We only hung 48 on South Bama. Of course we put 30 something up last year on them, and they might be a worse team, but we are missing Abdullah as well.

Getting everyone involved in an offense long term is better the having one go to guy short term. Trust me on this.

I think it will be a high scoring game with a lot of chances for both teams.

Oh it sure is, but this is game 3 of a new regime with a ton of new faces, and its the first road test.

No doubt you want Brady or Rogers-esque distribution of the football, but really all we have proven to this point is that we can run over inferior talent and hang with like talent. I'm not sure that puts me on the path to 40 unless both teams aren't going to play any defense, which is a possibility.

The route running and ball placement is key to understanding the progression of the offense. If your recievers can't even find their different levels in a play how can you be successful? This is a "us" thing. These things transcend your opponents.

We also put the 2nd team in early in the 4th. I think if we wanted to run it up we could. I wasn't impressed with Miami's D, but you never know when you are playing lower competition how players are going to play. I think 40 could be out there, but just have to go get it done. If we score 40 we win.

I think that was the problem with the offensive scheme last year, it required both the QB and the WR to read the same keys and make the same adjustment. Often, this would fall apart, and you would have the WR making one read, and the QB making another, and this often turned into an interception.

With Riley/Langsdorf, it appears as though everyone is on the same page, and so we are seeing a much more polished passing game. I've been impressed so far, and if they keep improving, we should be pretty good this year. Defensively, we still have some work to do.

The job they have done with the passing game is very impressive - I would like to see a depper commitment to the run game though - many times passing yards are empty yards

I guess the only real intent of my comment was, suppose we get into a funk on the road. Distributing the ball is all well and good, but sometimes TA gets off track and you need an Ameer type of play or player to get him back in rhythm and get the offense going again. I really like how we are less reliant on any given person, but it would be nice to count on say Westerkamp or someone using a little star power to get us a little spark if things get out of whack.

The chemistry Armstrong and Westercamp have will lend itself to TA looking for Westy when it's tough sledding. I also think with Riley's scheme and Cethan's ability we'll see TA lean on him as well.

It appears that we have some great coaching in the passing game. Could be the top 2 coaches?

I love this comment on passing yards...at times...being empty yards. Last year we had way over 300 yards rushing against Miami. I would take 300+ yards on the ground over 300+ yards through the air every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I think people would be a bit naive not to credit Riley with some of the system and play calling. The offensive side is his area of specialty and some of the plays, especially in the red zone reek of masterful play calling where it doesn't matter about talent/matchups - it is all about the perfect play call for the situation.

The red zone proficiency is a true mark of excellent play calling and so far Nebraska is 8 for 8 in the red zone. Now, if we can get those 3rd and shorts shored up (I think only struggled vs. BYU), then this could be a really fun offensive season.

I have to agree with you on pumping the brakes. I like what I'm seeing from TA and Langsdorf but there is plenty of room for improvement and there are stiffer tests ahead for them. That said, I have a ton of confidence in Langsdorf and Riley's ability to get the most out of what they have to work with this year. O line in progress, IMO a dip at RB, injuries at TE, new system, etc all make IMO for a potentially pretty mediocre offense for much of the year. I hope I'm wrong but I expect some struggles against good opponents. FWIW, I think Beck would have struggled mightily this year without Ameer too and I liked a lot of what Beck was doing offensively. I would have been fine with Beck sticking around as long as the head clown was gone. Beck's a good coach and would have been better IMO without Bo screaming at him. Love RR's enthusiasm but I think he may need a little more water in his Kool Aid.

TO used to say 1 running yard equaled 1 and a half passing yard. I agree, many teams that pass for 300 yards lose yet you rarely if ever see a team running for 300 yards lose.

I am going to copy and paste what Red Rover said about me, change the date and put it on my resume and fax it to the Texas State Armadillos. I’ll go from there then if I don’t get the job, I will apply for the Texas oc job.

That 2015 season... man. We could not get out of our own way with a pretty strong squad.

I may get grief for this... but out of the seven games we lost.. we probably should have only lost maybe two of them. I was completely off the Riley train after the Illinois game.... but the MSU win and the bowl victory got me back on.

Looking back at all of these comments is depressing.

Agreed. I know at least 2 of our losses we had a win probability of 99% late in the 4th (BYU & Illinois). Crazy to lose 1 of those games let alone 2. That Illinois loss was truly, embarrassing.

Heck, the Wisky loss too. That last possession we had late in the 4th where we needed a 1st down and the game was over, Riley and Langs run it 3 straight times predictably and punt it to Wisky knowing damn well they were gunna march on our D. My stomach is churning just thinking about that season.
