Recruiting: The final stretch

A few days ago I said that our efforts looked like chaos. (albeit successful chaos)
Now that we are at the end it looks even more so. A few observations.....

1. Henry (RB) is not included in the visit list again. Have we ever had a player so on again off again? It is obvious that we prioritize Washington over him and that he was just a fallback plan, but now we seem to appear OK with the possibility of not landing either of them. Is he a casualty of us liking our chances with Washington so much that we don't want to use one of our limited visits on a backup plan? If we miss on Washington and Henry never makes it to campus, do we turn to an Omaha RB? (forgot his name)

2. I think we are expecting a non-qualifier at WR. We have a large number signed or committed, but even with a limited amount of space and visits left we are still actively recruiting WRs. The only logical explanation I can come up with is that someone on the list ain't gonna make it here in the fall. Woodyard? One of the big hybrid WR/TE? Not sure.

3. The early signing period saved our bacon. It sounds strange, but earlier I mentioned the chaos....imagine if we were under the old rules. Frost and Co. would have had to spend the majority of their time visiting and reaffirming recruits that now we already have signed. This would have limited the success that we have seen from this staff in terms of their time spent targeting guys at the end. In this case the early signing period was a benefit to us.

Added note: Did we miss on Jarrett Bell? Seemed like he was wrapped up with a bow and then.........nothing. And we are still offering OL.

You may be right

At RB it's either Washington or Henry and Henry just got back from a visit to TTech- which he loved. Henry would have committed to NU- anytime in the last 3 weeks- now- maybe not at all. He wanted to commit- but didnt have commitable offer. Washington is all over the place- no one is really sure where he ends up- ASU looks to be in the lead right now.

OL- Looks like NU may have given Bell a deadline and he went past it. The others we were on look to be long gone- Hall and the new offer look like our only possibilities. And the new offer looks to be a bit of a stretch. So not so great news on this front.

DB- NU still in on Taylor, Palmer and Torain- looking good here.
So NU is taking another DB

LB- JJB and Tago still real possiblities there. Looks like they really want- need another LB. Looks good we get one- maybe even both- depending on how things shake out with our other signees.

WR- Still in on several- not sure if they are slow playing these guys or not. Again- probably depends on if our existing signees all qualify or not.

Are you suggesting that taking us from 80-something to 18 in the recruiting rankings is more a product of dumb luck due to how "chaotic" you view things rather than a product of a lot of hard work and a well layed out plan from our coaches?

I really don't know how you can call it chaos, the plan seems pretty clear to me. I think they would like to take a OL, RB, DB and OLB. Plus Tago, if room.

RB: Washington, followed by Henry. With Henry's visit being scratched, it is obvious he is too far down the overall list to take (already have Bell).
OL: Bell, followed by Hall. We may not be in as good shape with either now, hence the recent offer to the kid from St. Joe.
DB: Palmer, followed by Montgomery, followed by Taylor.
OLB. JJB, followed by Tago.

Recruiting is difficult and things change quick, but they seem to be organized and following their plan.

No.....the situation was chaotic and they are handling it. Started by continuing to coach UCF, back and forth flights, long hours, visits planned and then cancelled, players who were high on us decommitted, we had players re-up with the new staff, players targeted, untargeted...........that kind of chaos. All the while they got a jump start on 2019. Some people are good at chaos.

I am sure it looks like chaos from the outside looking in. We don’t hear what is said between the coaches and the recruits or how they evaluate people. We treat young kids like they are adults and can’t change their minds. Have you ever actually tried to get someone 17-22 to do something or even make a decision?

This staff seems to be working hard burning the candle at both ends. We aren’t going to get everyone we go after. I’ll you though, they are impressing me.

This ^^^^^

However, will simply add Washington is all over the board and may not even visit at this point in time but hope he does

OL...well...ummmm...

As for Torain mentioned by other poster we have moved on (this was strange)

As for RB, keep in mind there's a good chance Sargbah from Omaha North could still end up here (depending on attrition). To me he looks just as good on film as Henry, and he ran a 4.43 40 at our FNL camp. If there's not a spot for him this year, he'll go to IWCC and likely come here next spring.

All things important are chaotic, it is with execution they sometmes appear normal and grand!

The amount of news available, when combined with fake information makes it even more so ...

I hope Woodward will make it. According to Bell he is really fast and it looks like he is on film.

Jean-Baptiste does not seem to be sold on us. Still considering a visit to A&M this weekend. Jimbo, Fuente, Urban all expected to visit him this week.

On the bottom line this morning, apparently Frost said they are taking 24-27 recruits... wow. Must be making room!

I worry about Washington qualifying, even though Held double checked his grades and he is "good to go." Wish we would take both Henry and Washington because of this. Bell and Bradley can suffice in 2018 amd 2019 I suppose. Injuries happen though.

7 OVs left and some waiting to commit that might already be N... good chance to get 25 then if the coaches want that many.

JJB visiting A&M worries me.

With the OL offers going out, they must really want to take 2 more OL in this class.
