Or lack of them. After this last season I would have thought that we needed OL recruits badly. Any chance the new coaches thought the the OLs on hand were better than they were showing because of lack of competent coaching, or have they just had trouble closing the sale on more OLs?

I heard Nebraska will ultimately run 9 wide receivers with 1 center and a quarterback at some point next year. That could be the reason why there aren't many offensive line recruits in this particular class.

This has been covered quite a bit already. We have a lot of linemen on the roster. With only so many scholarships to go around, you have to allocate them accordingly. Anyway, we're still in it with Bell and MacDonal and possibly H. Hall.

No longer recruiting McDonald

How does the oline play in this offense compare with what we previously ran?

Are we prioritizing different skill sets and measurables? For instance do our tackles need to have the tradional measurables versus a guard or center or can a 6 foot 300 lb athlete do just as well at tackle than guard in this offense

Appreciate any insight

...but one in a million-ish odds?

I wouldn't say it's that bad. Nebraska does have some under rated linemen that come out of the state but we're not likely to have a steady supply of linemen to rely on in the state alone. The key is to pick up the good ones that do come from the state (Harrison Phillips anyone?)..

Have been happy overall with recruiting and ink not put to paper on second signing day but top flight OLB (JJB), shutdown CB and top OT are crucial in this class.

Have popcorn, enjoying the show for next week and a half.

While the product on the field sucked, Gates especially, Cavanaugh got pretty good reviews from those in the coach/playing community.

ISU grayshirt commit...OL not going well

Greg Austin sucks at recruiting!!!!

Why can't we get an OL coach that wants to coach up 5 and 6 star players instead of wanting to coach up 2 and 3 star players!?!!

Held should be recruiting for Austin!!!!

Anyone have any idea how OL recruits perform compared with their star rankings?
Wisconsin seems to do great on their OL with 3 star and under players.

Frost and Co. get the benefit of the doubt from me until some data comes in after a couple of seasons working with the players and developing them.

I think we have a lot of good young lineman. Our previous coach was just horrible. Raridon, Brokup, Schiterman, Wilson, Farnioks, Bando plus Jaimes and the older returners. I think we’re fine but need to hit it hard next recruiting season.

These guys are more experienced now. A few, Jaimes especially need to add at least twenty pounds.

IMO...Until Greg gets his "recruiting groove" I am guessing we start seeing Beckton with him more often and/or Walters.

Do we need another offensive lineman this year or can we plan on taking one extra next year.

We are starting to offer some otherwise widely overlooked (off the radar) prospects. Is our need that great in this class?

I think he did a good job recruiting and selling the staff's vision initially, he just got played by Bell. We could have had McDonald and Sampson at one point, but Bell was our #1 and the staff thought they had him. Now, he has slowed played us, and all our other prospects have fallen off the board and we are left holding the bag.

Counting the younger Farniok, we have 15 OLinemen on scholarship. Of those in the program in 2017, eight have 3 or 4 years to play. I assume that they are still trying to reel in their targets and have identified a possible backup. There are a couple of non-contributors among the upperclassmen. Maybe they move along if they don't make a move this year.

I think Sampson might have some qualifying issues and don't think McDonald measured out as expected. Bell could be a T/G but McD will be inside at next level IMO. With more visits available they might have done things differently.

I'm not a leave spots for next year guy but hope we don' just take a body.

Enjoying the last week though.

We don’t need to leave a spot open ... would rather just take the next best recruit regardless of need rather than deciding the last schollie has to go to an offensive lineman regardless of how big of a reach it might be ... our most recent offer at OT was a zero star with a walk-on offer at Kansas

Wow, the kid has been physically weak and soft, but has the size and some athleticism. If he hits the wieghts and S&C hard, he has definite promise.

After next year, we are looking at Decker, Wilson, Raridon, Farniok I, and Jaimes as probable players with seasoning. Bando, Farniok II, Sichterman, Walker and Brokop will be the younger guys. Barnett and Gaylord are probable Senior non-contributors (anyone want to weigh in on how probable this is?). For those at home, that is just a two deep for an offense that could demand more than five guys play.
Could be a year to look at possible grad transfers or 3 to play two JUCO guys in addition to hitting the HS ranks pretty hard. The Oline wasn't winning any awards before MR and staff showed up and things have trended downward since then.

And this is true. If one wants to get reachy on a position, a low rated linemen with size and athleticism might be the ticket. RS year to put on some weight and dig into how to succeed as a college linemen.
Spencer Long had no rivals ranking and turned out to be second team All-American and an NFL starter.

Reaching for an offensive lineman for the sake of achieving a specific number of scholarships per position would be a disappointment. Either take the best available player regardless of position or save the scholly for next year. Year 2 (or the first full year for the staff) is when recruiting momentum is at its peak. We'll wish we had more scholarships available.

That's why I don't understand the Jalan Robinson offer. He's from Lawrence, Kansas and lowly KU didn't even offer him. In his film he's mostly going against kids half his size. He could end up being a diamond in the rough, but I would think we could find a better prospect next year.

This is a valid point, but I think there is some truth to the idea that value can be added to Olinemen once they are in the program. If the staff thinks a kid is truly under-rated and has legit potential, they might pull the trigger. FWIW, Jalin Barnett was a 5.8 4* and Christian Gaylord was a 5.7 3*.
