Thats not the worst one. The ref who called the td for penn st against Nebraska that cost Tom a National Championship in 81.
It was 82 and the mistake happened one play before the TD around the three yard line.
I would also add the phantom clipping penalty that called back a kick return for a TD in our loss to FSU in 93

No it's when Texas grad ref was in replay booth which was illegal in 2009 and for refs to add one second to game. UT kicked field goal and we lost big 12 conference championship. I was so mad for at least six months after that game!
I remember looking up replay rules online following that game. It stated (on the Big12 website) that the booth could not initiate a review. Wish I would have took a screen shot, because 10 minutes later It was removed from the website.

It's is so good we left the shadow of Austin and their ownership of the big 12 office.
I am still suspicious how we incurred "the flu or food poisoning" during our 1996 championship with them...

I have a buddy who is an FSU fan, and we used to have big arguments about that call. I have reviewed that play with him about 50 different times. I don’t see a clip, but there is a block in the back. It’s hard to pick up on review because it’s nearly out of the screen on the playback, but the block in the back is there. It’s pretty subtle, and was pretty ticy tacky, but I think what the refs messed up was the call, not the actual penalty. They called a clip, but it was actually a block in the back. It’s been many years since I viewed it, but I think it’s right after the catch on the punt, so it’s early on in the play. And with the camera man following the ball it’s really hard to pick up unless you’re really looking. Maybe I’m wrong, but after having it pointed out to me and watching it on replay, it’s very subtle, but I think block in the back was the right call. Clipping is the wrong call, but the result of the penalty is the same.

But that Mark Blazek INT for a TD against UCLA in ‘88 was pretty sweet, even if it was an interesting call!

How about the offsides calls against Rimington in the 83 national championship game. How does a center get called for off sides?
