if he starts that means a couple QBs transferred which means not good for next year. maybe real good for 2-3 years from now.
I would say other way around. Only way both Gebbia and POB transfer is if they were beat out by a Freshman.

AMart will be here for the Spring and he will get a bit longer look than a normal frosh. If he bests those QBs now on the roster, there will definitely be some transferring. OTOH, I doubt AMart would be too jazzed up about a RS year.

If AMart as starter does play out, I think Gebbia would be out the door, maybe POB sticks around. Is Bunch even an option? Maybe Zack D gets dusted off as a backup QB.

After watching a lot of film on this offense over the past 2 weeks. I can tell you a freshman should have no trouble starting in this offense. Its very simplistic. Very basic passing reads throwing off play action and operating a lot of inside and outside zone. Riley's O could not start a freshman. Hell juniors in TA and TL struggled with it mightily at times. Frost's offense absolutely a frosh could start

Or...maybe a guy that can run and pass works well in an offense that needs a guy that can run and pass. Don't overcomplicate things.

I think one thing that we have to get over is the fear of guys transferring , and that certain guys redshirt because they are young. Frost knows the key to perfection is competition, so bring in qbs...run extremely efficient practices with lots of bodies so everybody gets reps, and the starter has to always worry that they will be replaced...they may be loved but their their playing time is not a given. I feel our last 3 staffs had players they were afraid to bench.

Agree completely. Guys compete for a spot and best man wins. If it's Amart I suspect TB and POB (at least one) will transfer. If Amart is good enough to best those guys, then we are fine at QB (as long as he is healthy).

Nothing wrong with having a strong freshman QB immediately vying for playing time. It's not like we had Frazier, Crouch, or Frost on this roster.

If Zach D is being relied upon for any sort of role... it's not a good sign. Andrew Bunch probably a more realistic option

Side tangent...think about this—Zack Darlington was recruited by Tim Beck. Yep, he will experience 3 college coaching staffs if he stays.

On the OP's topic, I think a frosh could totally start. I personally believe Frost already has a guy in mind of who he wants at QB next fall. A QB in Frost's offense does not have to be perfect by any means.

He doesn't come in the spring if he doesn't think he has a shot at starting in the fall.

Not saying he will, but that's got to be in his plan.

Reminds me of Archie Manning saying Tanner Lee could be a 1st round pick.

Is it possible?.....Yes.

Is it likely?.....Probably not.

All Manning and Brown are saying is that Lee's ceiling is a first round pick and Martinez's ceiling is a true freshman starter.

Martinez didn't play his senior year due to a shoulder injury, and I expect Gebbia or O'Brien to be quicker decision makers in Frost's offense (in the passing game, I'm not certain of their read option skills, but O'Brien did run them in high school).

Of the last 20 years, the QB competition this spring will be the most competitive it's been. As of now, it'll be Lee, O'Brien, Gebbia, Bunch, and Martinez.

The guys who will be fifth year seniors next year will be I think the only players in modern history who will have played for three coaches. These are the guys that committed to Bo, redshirted in Bo's last year in 2014, and are still on the team.

Darlington, Freedom, Gates, Farmer, Foster, Newell, Wilbon, Stoltenberg, and Gifford. I hope they all have great seasons next year and someone gives them a microphone after a much improved year so that we can get some insight from these guys after experiencing three staffs and two transitions.

This. I literally cannot remember the last time we pulled a QB for poor play...Mike Grant?

AMart’s highlight real is legit and for 6’3” this kid can move. Gonna be an interesting spring for sure! I’d still put my dollar on Geb getting that start simply because of experience, but the AMarts gonna make him earn it.

I think the game is going to moving awfully fast this next spring for a true freshman who didn't play his senior year of football. I think expecting him to start next fall is expecting too much. Regardless of how simple Frost's offense is for a QB, college defenses are going to be a new thing for him to have to deal with. No jokes please about our D please. We still have some tremendous athletes on our defense for Frost to work with.

Not to mention, we hardly lose anyone on defense. The only seniors we lose are Chris Jones and Josh Kalu. Otherwise, we return just about everyone, including Aaron Williams for his senior season who I believe is the QB of our defense and I predict will coach one day. We don't lose a single LB or DL... there should be only one way to go but up for the whole unit.

Pretty sure Marcus Newby and Weber were seniors this year.

Why do you think Gebbie and O'Brien would make quicker decisions? A-Mart has more experience running this type of offense. He probably knows it better than those two despite sitting out. After all....those two have spent the last year doing something totally different.

OK lets try looking at this from a different angle. Lets say linebacker. You have two guys that have similar physical skills with one of them being faster. One of them has only ever played in a 4-3 and he's a red shirt freshman. Your other option is a guy that is a true freshman but has been playing in a 3-4 all his life. You are running a 3-4. So why is it people don't think Amart is the better option if he has the knowledge and experience? Ok I get it that he didn't play last year......either did Gebbie and for the most part POB. What they did do last year is a totally different system.

They've been playing against D1-ish athletes the last year, vs a guy who didn't even play?

Yesterday I spoke with Martinez's coach from Clovis West. He and I have worked together on a few projects together for about 10 years, he is a very good guy and wouldn't steer me wrong.

He said:
Kid is very accurate thrower
Has explosive speed- He was wowed by his running ability
Kid is VERY mature, leader, well grounded

When I asked about his size- he said nothing to worry about, a solid 185 with plenty of room to fill out. He said he is a hard worker and focused- shouldnt have any problem adding 10 lbs before next season. When I asked about him playing QB in the BIG and running the ball- he said the kid is smart, quick and makes good decisions- never had an injury until coming into this year. He said the kid is a multi sport athlete and a real competitor.

As to the injury, he said Martinez could have played this year- but his dad held him back. So the injury thing shouldn't be a factor

Also talked to the HC at Fresno High yesterday. Guy I have known for 7-8 years- very trustworthy guy. Said we are "getting a gem. Nebraska is really going to like this kid"
My friend was in line for food at an FCA team camp, right behind Martinez. My buddy asked him why he was there, because he knew the kid was injured and not playing this year. Martinez said "this is still my team, I'm going to be with them every step of the way" He said Martinez was extremely polite, very well spoken and focused.

Yesterday I spoke with Martinez's coach Jerry Campbell from Clovis West. Jerry and I have worked together on a few projects together for about 10 years, he is a very good guy and wouldn't steer me wrong.

Same Jerry Campbell with the website and who puts out 10,000 books on how to install every offense/defense in the world?
