Thank goodness. Last D-line coach was almost non-existent except for talk. Excited for the future!

Doesn't look like we will get the JUCO CB named Webb. He changed his visit plans.

Getting this JUCO guy, the JUCO RB and JUCO WR is a good start. Maybe a JUCO OT?

Yup. Just need a body or 2, as there is plenty of talent in place. Hopefully recruiting picks up so this is not Frosts most talented team in the next few years (note, talent does not equal what he can make of kids)

Yep. Methinks this staff knows their window with high school kids is limited. They have holes to fill immediately. Fill holes and augment areas of immediate concern in 2018, recruit high school kids and go for depth in 2019.

For those who don’t follow Chalk Talk. The one thing the guy mentioned he was that Frost is excellent at roster management. One of Riley’s failures, IMO, was roster management. While he did great getting high school kids to commit, he didn’t go after the JUCO ranks to fill holes. The reality is, that at NU we need a certain number of high school kids to develop for the long haul. But we also need top notch JUCO kids to come in and fill in gaps of immediate need.

I’m no insider, but given the coaches recruiting focus, they have scouted our current players and know the long term and immediate needs and are recruiting as such this cycle.

While I agree Riley made a misstep on not getting JUCOs (sounds like it could have been an administration issue as well as Riley’s), I disagree with the roster management being a weakness of Riley. He has left the roster in much better shape then when he came. Remember when he came and there were 3 scholarship LBs? Or how there was 3 (?) scholarship OTs?

Riley clearly has issues, but he took a lopsided roster and filled out most positions (WR is an issue).

We are likely to get a handful of JUCOs in this class. The window for high school prospects that are P5 level is pretty much gone for the 2018 class considering 3/4 of them are likely to sign later this month. So JUCO is where we are going to get the speed process started and do what they can to land some good high school talent.

Don't reach for kids that have no business being on the roster like Riley did with his transition class.

You think that many will sign early? I can see marginal, lower ranked guys signing to make sure they get their spot, but What's the benefit for a guy with a bunch of offers?

what is the benefit of waiting? having recruiting analysts calling you non-stop probably gets old.

Just to keep all your options open I guess. Maybe something looks better or worse after the bowls.

i don't see many of these juco recruits replacing current starters. they are going to be disappointed when they find out they are back ups.

What I like about the plays on this film are his balance and how he sticks with plays and finishes his job. Obviously they're not gonna put a play on there where he doesn't do that...but some nice eye discipline plays on there, some nice motor plays on there where if he quits on the play he's not hitting a big peelback block on an INT return.

there is a LOT more to being a good player than running speed or measurable. first and foremost they have to know where to be and where to go.
and that is what holds back most juco kids. they have so little time in the system. some are freaks and their athleticism overcomes ignorance but many never have enough time to truly understand.
with a new scheme on defense I'm sure these jucos have a little better shot but just moving into a real D1 program is a big leap for juco kids too.

That is what the experts say and it makes sense. Maybe it ends up closer to 60% or maybe it ends up being closer to 75%. Nobody knows for certain. Most schools have most of their recruits already committed and there will be some at every school that will sign in 10 to 12 days. Nebraska included.

After this year the deadline will actually benefit Nebraska since official visits can start in the spring next year. That means Frost can get his targets here during the spring/summer/fall and not have ot wait until after their senior season. Thus, next year Nebraska will be in a position where most of the class will sign in December.

The early signing period is brutal for coaching changes. That is why you see the new staff recruiting with a planned effort.

I think Nate Clouse said on Severe's show this a.m. that he thought we had a great shot at landing Webb still?
