Two UCF coaches currently at Nebraska were part of the 0-12 season at UCF so it may be wise to hold off on the 4-8 responses. I'm surprised Scott didn't interview any of the previous NU coaches, especially after what he said when he took over the UCF position.
Click the YouTube link below and fast forward to the 18:41 mark. Pay close attention to coach Frost's response to the question. I am a little concerned how he had this mentality 2 years ago, but not now....
I fully understand trust and continuity as I preach that in my job/career however, it is mind boggling how the resources are available and there wasn't one staff member replaced. I find it extremely hard to believe he has the perfect staff 1-10 otherwise we would've had competition...
Curious on other thoughts?!?
I can understand your concerns but I don't fully share them. There were some good points already brought up. Planored mentioned Frost was not a HC with a staff going into UCF. Blue311blue mentioned Frost knows more about Nebraska then he did about UCF when he was hired two years ago. To somewhat tie to that TwinsRRUs brought up the friends/mentor aspect.
I think all of those are legit. I want to actually focus a little more on his actual quote you point out. Frost said, it would show "tremendous amount of disrespect to people who have worked here long and hard to just dismiss them out of hand..."
That's a really nice statement, but then he went on and kept two coaches from the previous staff. He may have learned something in this process that makes him not want to disrupt the symmetry of his current staff. As he has been a HC for two years with a staff under him, he had to approach this differently. On one hand he can be loyal to his assistants and invite any of them to join him. On the other hand, he could try to keep some coaches who were already here.
Looking at the coaches who were here, I don't believe any had been here more than three years. Frost may not feel these coaches have been here long enough to get the same consideration that he gave the UCF staff when he took over there. This also could have some influence from TO. I believe he was somewhat disappointed in not being consulted during the MR hire. He may have advised Frost to start over, though that is speculation on my part.
The final thing I want to say is Frost has mentioned many times he is bringing in coaches with high character. He may feel that Williams doesn't posses that after his DUI. Again that is speculation. I woudn't have minded keeping Williams or one of two other coaches, but I am not worrying too much at this time that we didn't.
