The adjustment I would make is to eliminate all of them and go back to the basic traditional ones: Rose, Holiday, Fiesta, Sun, Cotton, Liberty, Independence, Sugar, Orange, Gator, Citrus, Peach. I am sure I might be forgetting a couple, but you get the gist.

Screw this other crap ton of participation trophy bowls.

From a fan's perspective, it's hard to argue with this. Unfortunately, as long as brands are interested in sponsoring these bowls and networks are interested in broadcasting them, the money would suggest that they aren't going away.

However, I heard a GM from the NBA suggest moving the regular season from 82 games down to like 22, with the notion that scarcity would increase demand, and I have to say I agree with him. As a fan, paying a few hundo (likely more) to attend an NBA game in person, there is little worse than finding out the star player is sitting out for "rest" or that the team just didn't come out to play that day.

That applies to this topic because it may require a little more interest in games later in the season for teams angling for a smaller batch of bowls rather than simply "make 6-6 and you're in".

As long at TV money remains high as it is right now the Bowls are not going away. Game attendance is almost uniformly down but TV viewership is still growing. Will it peak and start to decline? Until or if it does then we might see a few less bowls again!
