i think the time is right to bring back our rightful mascot, and get rid of that corporate imposter that was the brainchild of those others who changed this place from what it once was.







Scott Frost himself wrote that he was taken back and upset by seeing the new, fake herbie in 2005.

Old Herbie was classic Nebraska....
Looks like he was just out in the field.
Imperfect but impossible to replicate, no apologies about who he was.
Warm and welcoming.
Slightly drunk from a few breakfast beers.

In all seriousness, I think this could and should happen.
Lets get the petitions going!

And while we're at it, could we please return Mississippi State's logo to them?


Probably just me, but I really preferred the aggressive look of the "Huskers" scrawl lettered across the block N. The new, nondescript logo will forever be associated with the nondescript Eichorst era.

Yep and please get rid of the dumb looking blocked N in favor of the N on the helmets.

This is hilarious. It is like the Nebraska football version of populism right before our eyes.

Back to where we were. Don’t change.

I’m not saying I’m not thrilled by the hire and I believe he will be so good for the program but to see people pining for old Herbie is just funny.

This is why we now have reboots of 70s gameshows on TV.

Omg is it ok to enjoy our old mascot that everyone seemed to like without some sort of socio-political statement?

A couple of things. First of all, I'm not sure Eichorst had much to do with changing to that logo, the change occured right about the same time he started, and based on reading the article about the change, I think it was something that was in the works before he ever got here. In fact, if you go back and look at the article announcing that as the new "secondary" logo, no mention is made of the athletic director, period.

Second of all, we have already gotten rid of that logo. Back in February of 2016, the logo was changed. Now the "secondary" logo, which that logo shown above was, is the script Huskers. Shown below is the current "secondary" logo:

Probably changed it because they don’t teach cursive writing in schools anymore and the kids going there now couldn’t read it.

Thanks, Jedi. This is great info.

I know that the block “N” has always been the primary logo—I should have differentiated between “primary” and “secondary” in my original post. I didn’t know, however, that they’d already done away with the Mississippi State retread (in my defense, there’s still a ton of stuff with that logo for sale online, which is the main reason that I was unaware of the change—maybe it’s selling slowly). But that’s welcome news, and embracing the script “Huskers” is a big step in the right direction.

I also understand that the secondary logo change wasn’t an Eichorst decision or initiative per se. But since its implementation occurred on his watch, I just meant that—rightly or wrongly—it would forever be associated with his tenure (kind of like the Detroit Pistons dreaded “teal era” is associated with mediocre basketball).

Nuts to that. I want us to go even further away from fat hayseed Herbie. I think he should lose the cowboy hat (he's a corn farmer not a rancher) and wear a suit and have Gordon Gecko hair. Then he should come out with a money bag labeled "ag subsidies" and make it rain monopoly money on the Scarlets. Then, just to piss off the hippies he should shoot Monsanto T-shirts out of a T-shirt cannon into the crowd. He'd be like the mascot equivalent of a pro wrestling "heel."

While we're at it, can we please bring back the more rounded, less holes-everywhere-on-it helmet that we used to have, instead of the most recent ones that I hate and have that dumb pincer in the back of them, thus disrupting the perfect roundness that once was.

I can't figure out how to post photos other wise I'd show the comparisons.

While we are all getting nostalgic, likes locate Mad Mike and the old hippie guy that threw hotdogs into the crowd and you threw the wrapper back with money in it.
