Anybody watch Big Red Wrapup tonight? Loved Damon and Dirk’s calling out the defense’s lack of effort each week. I hope the message for next year is any player that wants to simply coast and be lackadaisical can have fun sitting on the bench or better yet - find something else to do besides football.

He was wrong. They all want to win, they all want to make the tackle or make the right read. They want to play well every snap.

What is missing from this team is the refusal to. The refusal to lose, the refusal to miss a tackle or a read or play.

That isn't semantics, it's a massive distiction.

I will use a Marine Corps story to mirror what you wrote. Many years ago, I was a 150 pound kid going through Marine Corps School Of Infantry. There is no room for babies there. We were told to do something and we did it. We didn't have a choice. Every week, we would go out and do a progressively longer hump(a fast paced hike wearing about fifty pounds of gear/rifle). The motivation we had was the threat of having to stand duty back at the barracks that weekend if we fell out of that hump. Every one of us WANTED to finish that hump, but it took a lot of guts to continue walking at a fast pace when every bit of you wanted to just stop and catch your breath. The threat of not being able to go out to town and drink beer and chase women that weekend was an excellent motivational tool in the Marines. If that tool was not there, I am not sure a lot of us would have realized just how much we were capable of achieving. Those humps weeded out the truly badasses from the tough talkers who would quit on you in mile fifteen. Many times, the perceived bad dudes would quit and the 150 skinny kid from the burbs in Nebraska would walk right by them. This team has not seemed to have that motivation the last few years. They seem to just coast by on their four stars and great achievements in high school, all the while sucking on the field. We need true bad asses that don't quit on mile fifteen because those are the guys that will fight ever minute of the game on Saturdays. We need more Ben Stilles who are accountable for their effort and truly feel bad when they look at the poor result on the field. End of rant.

I hope Stilles starting in winter conditioning, even as a 3rd year starter, starts holding teammates accountable for effort. He's one guy I never questioned.

Well Said, That is exactly right. I have no doubt in my mind these kids want to be good. They just had no motivation by coaches to be the best they could be, to go that extra mile, to work until they felt like dying.
Many of these players didn't deserve to be playing let alone starting. Since they didn't get benched for their poor play, or held accountable by other teammates, it continued. I have no idea how Frost holds his practices or how he holds them accountable. I have to assume it is better than we have seen the last 3 years.

Do they really need motivation from coaches? At a minimum they should going the extra mile for themselves, if not the guy next to them or the fans. What is missing is guys stepping up and being leaders and pushing other players to be better.

Sounds good, but once you are about half way through the season and you see the coaches have put you in schemes that don't work and stick with them regardless of outcome, you tend to lose focus and motivation.

And then when guys who are busting their butts see guys who aren't getting a pass from the coaches you tend to lose your focus and motivation double time

While coaching is important having players from the team take a leadership role is mandatory also. Who do we think possibly fit that role on this team? Usually it is so obvious fans can see it and it is discussed amongst the medias and written about. No one name stands out this year and the defense feel apart after Gifford left the field!

Ive always been a big supporter of inspiring the people I work with. If as a manager I motivate someone i've noticed that its temporary.. if you inspire someone that to me lasts a lifetime. That is what this team has lacked seems like forever
