For the reasons explained in the article above, I'm uncomfortable seeing Greg Schiano getting trashed by Tennessee fans. This line summarizes the issue well:

"A few things worth noting. One is that McQueary is merely repeating a story he says he heard from Bradley about what Bradley said Schiano said to him. This is multilayer hearsay and not immediately admissible in any court of law. McQueary never asked Schiano about it and the two never worked at Penn State at the same time."

Multilayer hearsay decades after the fact is pretty shaky ground to damage someone's career with. Bradley also stated that McQueary's recollection was incorrect.

In my opinion, Tennessee fans were holding out hope for a home run hire. When they heard Schiano, this convenient excuse fell on their laps and they’ve convinced themselves this is really their reason for not wanting him.

I think it’s a travesty and shows a real lack of morals to trash this man’s reputation like this.

I also think it shows horrible leadership by the AD to not intervene and say “this guy is a good man and will lead us back”.

Now, Schiano is basically unhireable, the job is now less desirable and the Tennessee AD will likely get himself fired.

Here is what I posted on this topic in a different thread. I could not agree more with your post.... Well done.

"I am calling ******** on this "we don't want Schiano because of the PSU thing". This is all manufactured and fake outrage. The fact is, Tennessee fans don't want Schiano because he is their version of Mike Riley. He isn't the "splash" hire they wanted. He just seems like yet another coach they will have to fire in a few years.

If he was a super hot coach that lots of people were after nobody at Tennessee would be talking about this PSU thing and they would all be doing cartwheels that they got him to come to Rocky Top. And they would be defending his actions at PSU and screaming about how unfair it is to besmirch someone's name without any real evidence. Blah, blah, blah...

The fake outrage over child rape just so you can torpedo a football coach you don't want for other reasons is a disgusting and cynical act. It actually, ironically, trivializes child rape by using it as a mere utilitarian tool to condemn people you don't like for other reasons."

To be clear, shame on anyone who actually knew what Sandusky was doing and did nothing. However, right now all you have is a guy getting his career damaged by a disputed third hand rumor from decades ago.

Schiano shouldn't worry. Even if these rumors persist he can always get a job at any school in Alabama.....;)

Agree with what you posted.

McQueary himself was no hero in the Sandusky scandal. The prosecutors needed him to fry bigger fish, but he witnessed a sexual assault on a minor, didn't intervene, didn't notify the police, and apparently let it go once his superiors didn't act. What a knight in shining armor.

Exactly. What a coward that piece of **** is. If I had seen a grown man assaulting a young boy in the team showers I would have walked over and decked him and then called the police. The fact is, McQueary was worried about his own career. He was worried if he ratted out Sandusky that his days at PSU would be numbered. That is why he kept quiet and just went to JoPa with the info the next day. And then he has the nerve to start implicating other people when his *** was on the line.

Tennessee fans think there is an unemployed Nick Saban out there and he's dying to coach at Tennessee. That ain't going to happen. Wish we played them soon and not in 10 years or whenever it is. They could really go in the tank for awhile.

They have recruited well. So maybe they do luck out and find a good coach in a few weeks or less. One good coach could turn that program around pretty quickly I think

Expecting the pitchforks to come out at The Ohio State University today, if he is still employed there.

I was never a Schiano fan, thought he seemed like a cocky jerk at Rutgers. But this smearing of him is McCarthy-like. Particularly annoying was the post from the President’s spokeswoman. For a guy that complains about fake news, you’d think he would hold his spokeswoman to higher standards. (This is not a political statement as I am no Hillary fan!)

I wonder how many of the “protesters” were actually football fans concerned about the hire versus snowflakes that will “protest” anything at a drop of the hat? Hands up...don’t shoot comes to mind. With the coach you have guilt by association and for many that is enough to lock ‘em up and throw away the keys. I think this is a much louder statement of the political climate of today then the simple hiring of a damn football coach! Kinda sad if you ask me!

I mostly am glad Nebraska is not being caught looking like a monkey humping a football when we go to hire a coach. Of course if Frost says no - we may end up looking like that. Would fans revolt if Plan B is Les Miles??

The fans are going to revolt if it is anyone other than Scott Frost, so it wouldn't really matter if it was Les Miles or Tim Miles.

There is another side to this.
If it is fake news like people are trying to claim than why the hell did McQueary walk away with millions for blowing a whistle? He didn't work with Schiano so it's pretty odd he brought his name up. You can't convict Schiano because there is no proof but that don't make it fake news. Also, this could have been prevented if PSU or anybody at that school would have done the right thing years prior at that point Schiano name may have never come up. 45 accounts over a couple decades and everybody is innocent, amazing.

The case against Schiano is too flimsy to ruin his career and reputation with though.
