Man, Arkansas might be screwed. This is a very bad year to be head coach hunting if you aren’t an A list job.

Tennessee I think has been in scramble mode

Tennessee looked for their coach and found him likely serving as Urban's DC.

The culture of firing coaches is out of control. Teams that overachieve come from stable programs, you just have to endure some down times as well. Iowa, Wisconsin and Auburn all come to mind. Firing coaches on the regular doesn’t work. Big time programs are constantly underachieving and IMO it’s because they lack patience to let a staff build. Hopefully Nebraska learns from the last 20 years and let’s the next guy build, even if we have to weather some down times to get there

And that SEC, they eat their young. I’ve said worse. You just look at the record of the coach at an adequate time, there’s no patience. It’s a great conference but you win eight games in that conference, and I think Kevin [Sumlin] is a real good coach and an excellent recruiter. - AD Bill Moos

And the salaries and buyout clauses are out of control.

Riley is available. Arkansas would be a great place for him.

is this ego driven rather than business driven? ... the power 5 schools receive massive payouts by simply being a conference member regardless of wins and losses. Are your finances much better winning 10 games versus 6 or 7? Think of all the money Nebraska has invested chasing 10-11 wins - we are still paying Pelini and are adding Riley to the welfare line on top of what we are going to shell out for a new coach and staff. As a fan I'm happy but from a pure business standpoint does it make sense. Would be interested in the economics of winning in today's college football world where schools are receiving tens of millions of dollars regardless of whether they win or not.

I think they go hand in Hand. Taking a big time college coaching job is becoming a high risk decision. Most P5 coaches are fired in about 5 years. The only way to get a guy to leave a UCF type program that is paying them $1-3 mil/yr that they have a decade or more of job security is to make it a financial windfall whether they succeed or not.
