They have a mess on their hands. They look like us after firing our soon-to-be 2nd former coach was fired in 2014.

Chip Kelly has to ask himself if coaching at Ucla, which has plenty of top players to recruit within a relatively short distance, and a much less demanding hierarchy and fan base, is better than the opposite, a Florida program where their administration and fans demand a football team that should constantly play for SEC titles and NC’s, while also being in a hotbed recruiting area. No doubt Florida would pony up the cash to get him.

He’s going to make gobs of cash and have talent at his disposal at either school. Which is the lesser of two evils for him?

Expectations at UCLA pale in comparison to Florida. It seems something happened in the negotiations that has caused Florida to look around.
Chip's playing hardball? I view Chip as an east coast guy so I'm surprised doesn't jump at Florida IF they've offered. Florida's offensive roster is perfect for Chip. UCLA not so much.

Chip is hung up because of his severence package from the niners. If he signs with UF or UCLA right now he's not entitled to that money. Chip may have to wait another season before he comes back to football. The niners owe Kelly $12 million and if he signs before the end of the NFL regular season he's out that money.

There you go, it's all starting to make sense now. If I were him I would play it cool and lay low for another year.

I don't know how you can say Florida is less demanding. Quite the opposite if you at who they just fired vs. who we are about to fire. Which coach that got fired had the best W-L track record over his tenure? Which coach has been treated with less venom?

I'm hearing Chip was close with Florida until UCLA came open, which he prefers over the Gators.
Florida people are saying he has to wait until at least Sunday to take a job to get his full buyout from the 49ers. They expect him to sign with them Sunday or Monday. I guess we will see soon.

That would put him in the top 5 highest paid coahes. That’s nuts. I love SF, but the guy has been a HC for two years and had a losing record last year. If they do this, I bet there will be some coaches out there wanting to renegotiate their contracts.

The more the media says how great the Florida job is the more I think they are full of it. I get the sense they are pushing something that is repeated and builds like a snowball of crap going down a shi##hill. Crappy facilities, poor administration, unrealistic expectations and a former coach who thinks he is the AD without the title.

I think Chip goes to UCLA myself. They couldn't afford to fire another coach within 4-5 years and its the PAC-12 nobody really gives a crap on the west coast except for USC.

If they do, good luck to him at Florida.

I liked Lars but now I'm beginning to think that he's speaking out of his @ss. No way Frost is going to be offered 8-mil. He's as good as it gets for an up and comer but you don't just give out that type of money before ever setting foot on campus.

I hope Lars is full of it now, because he just mentioned Bielema.

If they offer Scott 8. Counter the offer. IMO unless you land someone really homerun Scott is where its at.

NU just got like another 20 mil a year starting this year. Pony up. Forget about it.

Agree with you on Florida, except it is a great job, from a talent perspective, and in Scott's backyard. Their fanbase is delusional. I mean, Mack won 2 division titles and had his offense gutted early this year by credit card fraud. Now he's out???

UCLA beautiful campus, stadium and great school with low expectations. Great job for Chip.

Good post.

I call BS on this as well - I think Florida has Kelly but that Kelly is trying to milk them for a bit more money - This 8 million may be more directed at Kelly than Frost - Frost has told them no

I believe Monday is going to be a busy/exciting/disappointing day for NU/UCF and Florida outside possibility of UCLA

Agree about UCLA. Oregon wasn't that great of a job before Chip, yes you have Phil Knight's money but Oregon has no recruiting base, and Chip still dominated that conference. No reason he can't do the same at UCLA, where he won't even have to leave the state to recruit.

In addition, the Pac-12 South is pretty weak now - Helton at USC is not a great coach, and the rest of the teams in the division suck for the most part. At Florida, he has to go through Bama, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee, etc., and also has to play FSU in non-conference play every year. Lots of good coaches in that league, compared to the Pac-12.

If Nebraska is going to offer 8 million a year for a coach it better be someone a hell of a lot more accomplished than Frost.

I just can’t wait until Nebraska goes 2 weeks + without naming a replacement. That would drive fans crazy.

I'm down for that. But not for a Leach or a Petrino.

I would for a Sweater Vest or a Pete Carrol, that is to say a coach who went out a winner and has won a NC.

I think if anybody gets historic Nebraska HC pay it should be Scott, a former Husker who won a NC for this team and undeservedly put up with the bull while doing it. Pay up imo
