I’ve come to really respect our quarterback. He had little protection all season, no run support, a concussion, mediocre coaches, frequent criticism, and a largely demoralized team. He also had as ugly a start to a season—with all the pick sixes—that I can recall seeing at any level. Yet, he kept coming back and ultimately put together some decent performances under difficult circumstances. In a abysmal season, his heart and toughness were one of the few bright spots.

My feelings about Lee have gone up and down so many times this season . . . Even the first half Saturday . . . but, I do agree with you, for now at least Laughing

I'm not Lee's biggest fan, but I really think if you swapped him and Alex Hornibrook, Wisconsin would be just about as good and Nebraska would be just as bad.

Lol

Early on with the pick sixes I was frustrated that they kept dedicating the entire game plan to his arm. :eek:

However, as the season played out we were offered a better perspective of him within the context of all the problems mentioned above.

Our biggest problem was hiring a new DC who implemented a new system, lost his mentor Bobby Elliot and had nobody else on his staff who had ever coached his 3-4 system. Then we lost multiple defensive starters in the back 8. We should have expected the disaster we got. IF we had hired a new DC who ran a similar system to Banker's, my gut tells me we would have won 7-8 games this year. Lee was as good as we could have hoped given the problems our inexperience in our O line caused.

Hornibrook is horrible though. If Wisconin expects to do anything in a potential playoff game, they better find a qb who's able to make plays.

Congrats to Lee and I’m more then fine if he comes back next year. He might have to watch Gebbia play or OBrein since there more mobile. But Lee has a great arm. He has all the tools needed by the NFL. He’s just got to keep it more consistent is all and keep getting better at reading defenses. And dude will be fine.

Sometimes things happen for the best. Had the above scenario played out, we probably keep SE and Reilly and muddle through a few more 7-8 win seasons without an offensive line or any real offensive identity or chance to beat WI, IA, MI, tOSU, PSU, etc. This way, we get a clean break where no reasonable person will hammer us for making a change like after Frank and Bo firings, and hopefully this time we have a savy AD to make a really smart hire.

Agree, but I don't think the problems with the O-Line were due to inexperience.
