I still can't get over why he thinks Bo was hired over him. If he thinks Bo is "good at the podium" what other things does Patterson think? Does he think Steven Hawking is good at basketball? Does he think Steve Buschemi is an attractive man?

Immediately makes me doubt the sincerity of his statement. But still, if we had a shot at Patterson, dammit!

In 2007, Patterson was 8-5 overall and 4-4 in the Mountain West. He has had two losing seasons in the Big XII. Patterson is regarded as a great coach, but how would Husker Nation respond to 4-8 season.

I took it to mean TO hired Bo, so he (TO) could win the podium. He could go to the podium and give Nebraska fans what they want; big, bad, tough Bo, who won as interim while fans chanted his name.

TO has a bit of a reputation as a penny pincher .... I suspect Bo's price tag was might have been less than Patterson's.

uggg

TCU boosters made sure Patterson was going nowhere. Sure he has a big ego though and easy to take a shot at Nebraska from where he is sitting. Speculation is probably BS that we could have gotten him.

Pelini and Patterson both interviewed for the job, and Pelini was hired. Pretty simple as to why he thinks Bo was hired over him.

He didn't say Bo was good at the podium, the comment could've been directed at Tennessee hiring Kiffin which makes more sense. However, he could've also meant TO will win at the podium by delivering tough *** Pelini, who the high majority of this fan base wanted.

Yeah, I would think so too. Kiffin is pretty smooth.

How dare you try to imply anything negative about TO!! Laughing

TCU was in the WAC when he was named HC for their bowl game in 2000. They were in Conference USA for the next four, and Mountain West for 05-07 when Pelini was hired. He was 62-18 (77.5%) after 2007 which ended with a bowl win in the Texas Bowl, and an 8-5 season. This was after two 11-2 seasons. TCU joined the Big 12 in 2012.

Total speculation here, but I've always felt that AD's may appear to be able to make their choice, but is that always the case? Was TO pressured into hiring Bo by the big money boosters? Firing a coach can be a financial issue.

TCU at the end of 2007 had just completed their 3rd year in the Mountain West having been in conference USA prior. They were still 5 years away from joining the B12. We could have gotten him if we wanted.

So we could have had Mack Brown in 1998, and Gary Patterson in 2008. I'm going to go ahead and throw up now.

IMO, we could have had anyone in the country in 1997 to follow TO. Imagine Nick Saban back then.

Very bad decision in hindsight. But the fans wanted Pelini. Many would have melted down if we hired a guy who just finished 8-5 in the Mountain West Conference.

Also, I'm sure money played a big factor. Patterson turned down a 2mill+ offer from Minnesota the year before. We hired Pelini for $1.1 million/year. We've gone cheap with the last several hires - we can't afford to do it again this time.

If they take Frost over Patterson this go round I will go ballistic! Patterson is a proven winner at the highest level, Frost is an up and coming coach with Nebraska ties

If you can get Shaw, Patterson or Kelly you take any of them over Frost... Don't be dumb and stubborn! <- Not directing this statement at you Harry Caray, just a general statement to the fanbase

The Patterson ship has sailed. He makes over $5 million/year now and is in a major conference. He has a statue of himself outside the stadium.

Back in 2007, he was a mid-major coach with a few good seasons, and looking to prove himself on the big stage. Once he made a couple of BCS bowls and TCU joined the Big 12, he had it made there.

I'm thinking times haven't changed. Let's see how it works out this time around.

Personally, I believe that there is pressure on Moos, by some with deep pockets to hire Frost. When you consider that Pelini is still being paid, potentially Riley and his assistants if there is a change, buyout for Frost, then a new staff, you have to consider paying those bills could be a huge factor.

I know some feel history could repeat itself, but there are stark differences between Pelini in 07 and Frost today. Even though LSU was on their way to winning a MNC, I don't remember Pelini being looked at by schools the caliber of Florida and Tennessee.

Pelini was known to fans here as the guy who Pederson let go in favor of Callahan. Frost is this year's PJ Fleck or Tom Herman nationally. He's the HOT coaching candidate.

I'm not saying it has to be Frost, but I've made it clear in prior posts that anyone who thinks he isn't qualified is crazy. It is quite possible Frost may be the best we could get TODAY.

Patterson would be a complete idiot to leave TCU now to come to Nebraska. The closest he'd come to Lincoln is using it to possibly get a raise. He's 57 years old. If he's going to leave there, it would be somewhere else, not here.

I don't give a **** about what money he is getting. You hire the best coach that is interested, and avoid the noise! Quit letting the fan base decide the future of the program, and make the decision on what is offered!

I'd be fine with him, but I find it laughable to think he'd come here. This is not the program it used to be. Tout all the tradition, fan support, blah, blah, blah, he'd be an idiot to leave there to come here.

In retrospect - if that was TO's decision - it was not a great one. What Patterson did not answer is if he would have gone to Nebraska....I suspect he showed a lack of interest when interviewed (given our history with Solich). Plus TO wanted to keep Watson - no way Patterson would have agreed to that. Pelini had a lot of booster and fan mojo - although he did not handle his exit on Solich particularly well (got on the radio to rant about the Administration being #1 on that list).
Bo wanted the gig - TO was not alone thinking Bo was a good idea. In all honesty - Pelini was the "next great coach" given his success as a DC (OU and LSU). BUT....he ended up having a number of weaknesses as a head coach and NO INTEREST in working to improve them. Got him fired eventually. Yeah I think Patterson would have been better but frankly we don't know if he would have come if offered - he refused to answer that question.

We found it Laughable that he would come here in 2007... You never know what a person is thinking, or what their goals are. Do I think the chances are good that we get Patterson this go round, NO. Doesn't mean you don't go all out and make the best effort. Especially knowing he was interested in the past.

Not that I care about "credit" but this is exactly what I said happened and everyone piled on me. HE APPLIED HERE. Not the other way around. HE WANTED THE JOB and TO felt that Pelini was the right guy for the job. I don't think it's without reasoning why he selected Bo. Nebraska had just gone through the nasty Callahan era and the fans wanted one of "our guys" then too. Unfortunately, that decision may have set the program back another 10 years.

another self denigrating Nebraska post. I have not lived there in many years but let me tell you Nebraska is a great place to live. I do think the people sometimes sell NE short and that translates to the how they view the football program. There is plenty for this program to brag about and it has plenty of advantages over other programs
