Just read the football graduation stats for the B1G. Nebraska is second in the league at 85%. Northwestern, of course, is first at 99%. Penn State and Indiana tied for third at 84%.
Ohio State? Lol. 69%.
He may not be a great football coach, but credit should be given when it is due.
Kudos to Riley and staff for continuing our strong tradition of emphasizing education for our players

Is it actually an increase since the prior regime? I'm betting that it is not. So while the 85% number seems good, I am curious what those numbers were previously.

Good question. Anyone on here have that info?
I did a quick look on the APR rate, which has dropped under Riley, but it's not the same as the graduation percentage.

For the APR, it isn't a drastic drop, here is a screen shot:

The sort of hidden benefit of the old walk on program in the past was getting all those pre-med, math, and science majors that pretty much never saw the light of day on the field except on the practice squad, but sure did help keep us #1 in graduation rate and right up there with academic all-americans.

Ohio State sends numerous to the NFL prior to graduation. How many did the loose last year? I would also speculate that several others transfer to a school where they can play if they don't cut it at tOSU.

I'd be curious to see from 1990 up to the end of the Solich era. Looks like it was "low" back then and on an upward trend.

Did Solich start that trend or was it going up ever since 1990, or even 1962?

2016-2017 85%(2nd in Big Ten)
2015-2016 86%(2nd in Big Ten)
2014-2015 85%(2nd in Big Ten)
2013-2014 81%(3rd in Big Ten)
2012-2013 76%(4th in Big Ten)
2011-2012 68%(9th in Big Ten)
2010-2011 67%(2nd in Big 12)
2009-2010 68%(4th in Big 12)
2008-2009 72%(1st in Big 12)
2007-2008 78%(3rd in Big 12)
2006-2007 78%(2nd in Big 12)
2005-2006 88%(1st in Big 12)
2004-2005 85%(2nd in Big 12)

04-05 is the farthest that the NCAA GSR website goes back.

2 things here. 1. The Big 12 wasn't very good with graduating players. 2. Our move to the Big Ten forced our athletic department to increase their rate in order to be part of the conference.

Big difference in the academics between the two conferences. 67% was 2nd in the Big 12 and a year later 68% was 9th in the B1G.

Nebraska Ranked #124 in best colleges and universities by US News & World Report.... Nebraska is much closer to Big 12 academics overall.

Walk-ons are not eligible to be Academic All-Americans unless they are starters or very significant contributors to the football team on the field.

Fair enough. I believe they do count toward the grad rate though?

Rob Zatecha was a 1991 scholarship athlete.
That was the point.
It wasn't just walk ons who gave us our academic record.
TO and the athletic dept as a whole deserve a lot of credit. A great system was created for our athletes.

We have to be sure we position ourselves so we are at the front of the line when they start handing out bowl invites to 5 win teams based on academic performance.

That is assuming we can actually beat Minnesota on the road which is a big assumption given the mindset of the 2017 team.
