Great DC...also a very good recruiter
This. He was last in recruiting in the American conference the last two years and a prime reason he was fired.First part true. Second part, just no.
He will be a better recruiter here. Just like he was at ND. Recruiting kids to Storrs, Connecticut is hard to do. You know the other cities in the American? This. He was last in recruiting in the American conference the last two years and a prime reason he was fired.
But I don't think Riley puts a lot on the recruiting of his coordinators. If Diaco can run a really good defense he will help out everyone else's recruiting.

Cincinnati, Houston, Dallas (SMU), Tampa Bay (USF), Orlando (UCF), New Orleans (Tulane), Philadelphia (Temple), Tulsa, Memphis, and Greenville, North Carolina. The population of Storrs is 16,000. Connecticut doesn't produce football talent. Sure Jersey does, but they have a lot of other suitors.
No matter who is the coach at UConn, they will almost always be last in the American.

UConn is a basketball school. That is just like saying KU football should get all the studs out of KC because it is 30 minutes away from Lawrence. They don't.Storrs is pretty close to Hartford (within 30 mins.) and the bball team seems to be able to recruit there. I'm not disputing that it is challenging but CT is not without some positives.
Wrong...my wolverines went head to head with him on numerous recruits when he was at ND...the guy can recruit...First part true. Second part, just no.
They don't have a history, that doesn't mean the right coach can't recruit there. Same with Kansas.UConn is a basketball school. That is just like saying KU football should get all the studs out of KC because it is 30 minutes away from Lawrence. They don't.
You really throw in some good posts; great point, thank you.Wrong...my wolverines went head to head with him on numerous recruits when he was at ND...the guy can recruit...
Yes, but even a cursory glance at Connecticut recruiting going back as far as Rivals has rankings, shows that slightly better ranking you referenced was the exception, not the rule. Pretty much every year they are either last or next to last in their conference, some years they didn't even rank in their conference.Ehhhhh...Boston is little more than hour, Hartford is 30 minutes, and NYC is 2.5 hours. Plus, Storrs has all the amenities of any college town. There are 32,000 students there. The year before he got to Storrs, UCONN was 5th in the league in recruiting with 12 three stars. This year they had 1.
BUT...if he can coach them up we can let the position coaches recruit and all will be well. Just being realistic.
I didn't go back past their American affiliation...so I trust you. However, his recruiting was not acceptable to the AD, David Benedict. I'm from the east coast and know Uconn a little bit. In fact, my little sister did her residence at Uconn's hospital and I went to prep school in Connecticut (though that was many years ago). The 32k number you quote is actually the total enrollment of all campuses around the state (though the majority are in Storrs of course). It also has a decent number of commuters. When it comes to "the state university" here in the Northeast it is not like it is in the rest of the country. Very few have an affinity to it, unless you went there, and Uconn itself is a school you go to if you can't get into or afford something better. People don't go to Uconn because of its location...Boston and NYC (where I live) have plenty of options and storrs feels like it is in the middle of no where (in fact, I grew up in NYC, wanted a big school and went to Michigan without giving Uconn a first thought let alone a second one). As far as football...they've only been d1a (FBS) for about 15 years and the stadium isn't even on campus.Ehhhhh...Boston is little more than hour, Hartford is 30 minutes, and NYC is 2.5 hours. You are right about the numbers. There are a smidge over 25k at Storrs. I am familiar with Conecticut having lived there for eight years. I have been to Storrs to play volleyball a number of times. I also graduated from one of the schools in the State University system (SCSU). I don't sense a lack of affinity for the state schools among Connecticut graduates. For example, UCONN identification was rocking when the men's bball team was good and is still very strong with the women. Maybe it's because I lived there for a number of years, but the perception of Connecticut residents was that New Yorkers really didn't understand us.I'm from the east coast and know Uconn a little bit. UCONN alum, get up there for several days every year. UCONN isn't cheap, but it is in the middle of nowhere.I'm from the east coast and know Uconn a little bit. They are no longer in a power conference (despite what some thought of Big East football it was a power conference)...Syracuse joined the ACC, Rutgers joined the B10, Franklin at PSU is a snake but still an elite recruiter and Michigan hired BC's DC who has spent most of his career in NE (Michigan has landed 3 of CTs top 6 players this year)...that's a tough situation...I think he is a good recruiter but I'm not saying the guy is Nick Saban.I didn't go back past their American affiliation...so I trust you. However, his recruiting was not acceptable to the AD, David Benedict. He said it was a reason that Diaco was fired.
Various recruiting sites have ranked UConn poorly in recent weeks. For example, 247Sports has UConn last in the AAC and 108th in the nation for the coming class.
"You have to look at all sides of the equation, and recruiting is pretty significant in the ability to have success," Benedict said. "Recruiting certainly is a factor" [in the firing].
Compared to going to a small private school it is...just looked it up...Uconn is even roughly half the cost of the large public U I went to (Michigan)...I guess I should have clarified it by saying in comparison to certain options that many in this area consider.UCONN alum, get up there for several days every year. UCONN isn't cheap, but it is in the middle of nowhere.

As Nebraska cycles through yet another coaching staff perhaps it’s time to take a look in the mirror.
Diaco was a very good DC at Notre Dame which is what I based my comments on.
