I guess I don't understand the need for personal attacks on a guy that has been here for 8 months. I am pretty sure, of all the coaches and players that have been through the program in the last 20 years, D. Williams probably isn't anywhere near the top of the list of problems. Peter knows no one on that staff or on that team is going to retaliate or defend themselves.

I don't see ANY other former players acting like this. There was no need for him to attack Coach Williams on a personal level, like that. You really think a lot of players and fans have a problem with how he dresses and think that he must somehow chose between coaching well or wearing a hat a certain way? That's just absurd. Nothing wrong with calling out poor performance, etc. But what JP did was just "look at me theatrics".

I'm pretty sure JP wouldn't care what the coaches wear if the team was headed in the right direction. His comments have gone well beyond attire. People are just focusing on this aspect of his commentary, and using it as a reason to dismiss one of the greatest Huskers of all time.

Exactly. Look at Adam Carriker. He too gets emotional and speaks passionately about Husker football. But he keeps things civil and respectful. The last thing this program needs right now are more former players coming out hurling personal insults at the current coaches. Totally unacceptable. This is right up there with his absurd claim a few weeks back that California recruits are essentially sissy boys.

But you reinforce my point above that the personal insults divert focus away from the substance of his comments.

JP is tame for what should be said on a regular basis this whole season to the coaches and players, BY THE HEAD COACH! If MR had half the fire of JP i suspect the season would be going quite different. I once saw MR not too gently release his headphones... real fire there.

I have said for quite some time, not here because im newer here, that the Blackshirts and starters need to earn their roles not just in practice but during the dagon games! Quit coddling the players, quit giving them the start if they are making huge mistakes, quit handing out blackshirts and making them less meaningful. Time/place for JP may have been out of line, but at the same time i think now that it was this public maybe it gets a positive reaction from the coaching staff and players. I wont pretend to know what will happen behind the scenes.

but but but passion. Where are all the other players? why aren't they coming to publicly back up his comments? I have not seen any of that posted anywhere. Why? The other former players seem to distance themselves from him. Jay Foreman is about as honest as they get with his critique of the program, coaches and players. But he doesn't come off sounding like a jackass. Which is why he is on radio shows all over the country and JP gets a cameo on Mikel Severe's little local thing.

Plus JP should have a little more humility. He hurt this program with his steroid use and later tell-all where he discusses it. Taints every other player on that team. Were they on roids too? Is that why we were so physically dominant in those years? And so on. His actions cast a negative shadow.
Furthermore, the only reason anyone listens to him and the only reason he has a platform at all, is that he was a dominant defensive tackle on our greatest team. But how did he become dominant? By building fake muscle mass through the use of steroids. In other words, take away the steroids and he would have been a now long forgotten back up. A nobody.

Frost's former team mate not really doing him a solid.

What if Frost had wanted to keep Williams? Almost all coaching transitions leave one or two guys as crossovers.

I believe the OP had intimated in another thread that Frost, given the opportunity, may want to upgrade his staff with folks as such.

Calls out coaching staff again...especially Williams. Keep it up 55!
Good, I know some say heis bad for the program for being so harsh and negative. It some ways he probably does go too far. But The minute fans and ex players stop being vocal, even when it is negative, that is when the program is truely gone. It means people stopped caring. Once people stop caring it is tought to get it back.
In a way he is 100% right. Anybody can watch these games and see this team is soft. A team is a by product of their coaching staff. If a team is acting soft odds are their coaches are the culprit.
I saw a quote somewhere that went something like this: "The Nebraska fans that lived through the 90s are wondering when it will return. The millenials are wondering why people aren't just happy with where we are at. The young kids just expect Nebrsaka to lose."

Anyone who thinks this commentary from JP is a good thing is a complete moron.

The 90's guys are way more vocal than the 70's guys, but even most of the 90's guys have an internal barometer.

JP is fast becoming the guy that realizes its not cool to be the 34 year old guy that comes back to his old frat house. Except he doesn't realize it.

His personality was a perfect fit for the field, or had he attempted to be a "fire in the belly" type of coach. But he's neither, and its unbecoming for him at times.

Edit: Anyone who listens to Benning or Vrzal knows you can talk about how "straight up war" the old days were, without making a fool of yourself or burning down potential Frost coaching hires.

Jason has done more for the Huskers than anyone on this board. He has given his body, time, energy, heart, and passion to a program he believes in. If anyone on this board has given so much of themselves as Jason has you would be as passionate as he is.

I love his passion and if more coaches and players had his attitude we wouldn't be in this sad state of affairs!

I for one applaud Jason for saying what a lot of former players and some current fans think and feel. (notice I said a lot, not all)
Are you still a fan or are you gonna follow through with your cute little ultimatum?

If they are soft (and I agree they are) I would wager that a secondary coach who has been here eight months is not the cause. How about going after Parella, who in two years still has not generated a physically tough line. Zero pass rush. And got rag-dolled by Ohio State and Wisky. But Parella is "one of ours" so he doesn't go after him. JP might be right about some things, but what he is right about is stuff that even my 81 year old momma has pointed out to me.

Yah and on top of the fact that Parella hasn't really transformed the DL in a radical way....Peter doesn't really ever attempt to explain why Parella hasn't transformed the Blackshirts in the way Peter was selling when he led the campaign a couple years ago to get him.

That is the beauty of making a few cameos and being a twitter hero. There is no long term accountability for your comments. A few days of banter, then it goes away, until the next time you are asked to make a cameo or someone needs a soundbite.

Anything JP says that is worth listening to is stuff lots of former players have said. You imply that JP has some kind of courage other former players lack. Nonsense. Many others have also spoken out.
But what they haven't done is to speak in irresponsible ways with personal attacks on specific coaches.

I agree with this. Yah, he loses his rag and says stupid stuff. You should hear me just about every Saturday for the last 15 freakin' years or so. I need a soft squeeze ball every Saturday now or I would probably have a coronary.

Of course, I'm not doing it on the radio, I get it. But c'mon, it is a stupid local show about 4 people listen to. I agree that he gets too personal, I am just glad we have former players that care this much about the program. You are also right about we know when it is over when we all stop caring so much about it.

Greatest Huskers of all time? Um. No. He played on one of the greatest teams of all times and he could leave the game and his replacement did just fine. Great player. There are other criteria besides sacks and tackles that go in to that.

I liked his brother better, that guy was a rock at nose guard, something we didn't have since noonan.

I will say it again, if we are going to be pass happy, lets keep riley (unless frost wants to bring his Oregon pass happy OC self here)
whatever we do run or pass, lets not flip flop every 3 years. diaco's bend and miss a tackle defence needs to be examined.

2 questions:
1. if warren buffet has 5000 million dollars, why can't we have frost as oc, venerables as dc, urban as coach, and saben as ad????
as far I know there is no salary cap on coaches.

2. Jason peters would go to somewhere out west to get knocked out for 2 weeks to get over herion addiction (per his book)
can they do that for smokeing???

I think Parella is stuck with whatever Diaco wants. I don't think coaching the DL is rocket science and Parella could adjust just fine to whatever a new DC would want. Our D line looked a WHOLE bunch better against Purdue in that 4th qtr when Diaco turned the D loose to get stops. FINALLY we had some 5 man rushes and DBs playing up on their guys.

It was too bad that Hughes decided to retire from the recruiting game and didn't vibe with two guys in VV and Maliek who were on the way out. Cause Hank coached some very good running Ds at UCONN during their time in the Big East. At one time, he could get sub blue chip guys to put in good Dline play.

There's no problem with Parella for me. I think he's a solid coach.

If we're going to praise JP for his "moral courage" its got to be carried to its logical conclusion.

If Riley/Banker/Diaco are going to inhibit what impact Parella is going to have on the program, then don't do a bunch of flashy stunts and sound bits to get parella in here to "change the program".

Just man up two years ago and say "these guys are not the right peeps who could even take advantage of Parella's skillset".

He did the exact opposite. Where's the "courage to say what needs to be said" in that?

Yeah. Imagine that. After they had been battling 3 against 5 or 6 the whole game they suddenly got better when at times one or two of them got to a 1 on 1 matchup. Golly who would have thunk it?

Good points. But don't misunderstand my point. I am not saying Parella is a bad coach. I think he is probably a good coach. I was just pointing out JP's hypocrisy in calling out Williams for our poor secondary play, but gives Parella a pass. Because everything you say about Parella doing what Diaco asks could also be said of Williams. Maybe Williams if he had his way would want to coach our db's to be more aggressive and to be in more press coverage. But he can't, given Diaco's scheme.
But all of that is reasonable commentary. Notice how nobody brought up what Parella wears to practice

then one could say that Diaco and play calling made the DL better. I am just messing around. I think Parella is good coach, but as you can see, Nebraska fan is quick to defend him and blame scheme, but they will blame Cav for OL play, when maybe he is just doing what DL/MR say.

I'll be interested in JP's take if/when Frost is hired, and Frost doesn't immediately reinstall "the old days".

What little I can find of Frost and how he runs practice sounds like a good chunk of it is similar to what we say now.

You got his players saying things like he's all about the team, but practice is fun and high energy, and he wants you to be an individual. About how great of a "modern style coach" Frost is.

Obviously Frost and staff put out good sound bites about wanting to play fast and physical and with good effort, but so does pretty much every staff.

There's not a lot of evidence that "welcome to boot, Spartan" is the order of the day in a Frost regime.

Obviously he's doing something right in scheme and in practice as he's got that team playing well, but I don't know that I'd be expecting a whole "blood bath" type of vibe to be emanating from Lincoln next year if Frost is hired.
