One of the best games. The one highlight ESPN showed of this game for years was the awful horse collar tackle CU had on Frazier. Funny thing is, back then it was seen as a great play. Now it's a penalty

Yes. That is easy to do. Every team in college football does that all the time. Sigh.
Oh, I know. It wasn't even that easy back then, but the play call isn't even in the realm of possibility now because ... well, we know why. Peace.

Yep, remember it well. Broke a three year streak of not beating CU. Also, this is the game the last time the Huskers ran the 'ole 'fumble-rooskie' play. Will Shields picked up the ball ran around end. The following Saturday the Huskers clobbered a top-10 KU team. Then, after KU a shocking loss to Iowa State. The Big-8 title wasn't decided until Nebraska played and beat K-State.....in Tokyo, Japan of all places!! Great memories. Thanks for posting.

Even NFL teams will catch another team off guard from time to time by running on 3rd and medium. I haven't kept track, but seriously, I haven't seen Nebraska call a run play on 3rd and 3 in weeks. What is the benefit of picking up 7 yards on the first two plays if 3rd and 3 is basically the same as 3rd and 8?

I understand the coaching staff throws their hands in the air by saying "well, we can't pick up even 2 yards running, why call it on 3rd and 3?" but you've got to establish that culture as a program. Against Purdue, Nebraska had first and goal from the 5 yard line. If I'm the coach, I tell the team, we're running 4 straight plays. Go get those 5 yards. If we come up short, at least they have their back against the goal line. This also tells the team what kind of team you want them to be.

If social media was around back then Calvin Jones would have probably been forced into hiding, and TO would have been criticized for lack of control of his team, and what he allows at practice
