Count me completely out on Dan Mullen. Our previous coach was fired for many reasons but one of the main reasons, contrary to popular belief, was due to his performance in big games vs ranked teams. Dan Mullen is 6-33 with a score differential of -11.4 vs ranked teams and 2-16 with a score differential of -14 vs ranked teams when his team was also ranked. Mullen is worse in big games than a guy we rightfully fired.

Fuente and Frost are the only ones who makes remote sense, and Fuente is locked in at VT.

What makes you say Fuente is locked in at VT? I honestly don't know a whole lot about that situation. Also should probably mention guys like Matt Campbell and Jeff Brohm in the same category as Fuente and Frost.

Good stats, now what are the other two guys for curiosity sake?

I get the feeling sometimes that having a past goes against one coach and not having a long one helps another.

Perform due diligence, but...
1. Justin Fuente - heavy odds he stays in Blacksburg
2. Gary Patterson - heavy odds he retires a Horned Frog
3. Frosty (2-3 more years needed)
4. Dan Mullen - covered above

Ok, can't take it any more. I love this, "Scott Frost isn't ready B.S." We are talking about a 42 year old, six year NFL veteran, who was the son of a high school coach, played for Walsh, Osborne, Parcells/Belichick, Gruden. He has coached the Tampa 2 defense, linebackers, wide receivers, been a co-defensive coordinator, an offensive coordinator and now a head coach for 2 years. He's probably forgotten more about football than probably most of us know. But he's not ready to take over a HAS BEEN program, that hasn't won a conference title since most of the current players were in diapers?? RUFKM? Get over yourselves.

If Frost isn't ready to take over Nebraska, then Oklahoma was idiotic for handing the keys over to Lincoln Riley, and Bob Devaney was stupid for handing the keys over to Osborne in 73.

Please, stop this freaking nonsense. Unless you are a total football scholar and have been putting on coaching clinics for years, you are not qualified to say if Frost is or is not ready. Rant over.

Seriously I don’t think anyone is saying he’s not ready. I read “might be ready” and “don’t know if he’s ready “ but not “isn’t ready.”

I don’t have time to go back and find the posts but since SE was fired and the speculation began, there’s been more than a few “he’s not ready” or “he needs more time” comments.

IMHO we need to go for a young gun. Whether it's Frost or not, we need to go young with our next hire.

After a 10-4 record in Year 1 at VT (Good Lord, I have forgotten what that kind of record feels like), I don't think he would say yes to Nebraska, even if we offered him $5 million + . Fuente is making $3.2 million with a 500K bonus. He's 6-1 right now with a lone loss to Clemson. If I'm him, VT is my baby. He's in the ACC, he's not in Clemson's division, and even though he coached at Illinois State in the B1G footprint, I think he would have a hard time leaving a VT football team with loads of potential.

He would be a hell of young up and comer, but I don't think he's leaving the ACC. Campbell and Brohm should absolutely be part of the discussion. Gonna do some research on those guys tonight!

Wonder if Matt Campbell will still be the girl with the curl at the end of the year when ISU is left out of the bowls. May not win another one this year.

What's this about Brohm?
