I don't want to get started too much on the officiating, or else I'm liable to write a 20-page dissertation. Another play that baffled me was the final play of the game. Obviously it didn't end up mattering, but if something crazy happened and Purdue actually scored or a penalty was called (not terribly crazy actually), I would be interested to see what happened. What interested me was the second pitch by Purdue, to the runner who ended up going out of bounds. It was clearly a forward pass. I thought it looked like one live, and watching numerous replays, it was clearly a forward pass. If you look at the players position when he lets go, and the other player's position when he catches it, you can clearly see he is further upfield. Not to mention, basic physics shows it would have traveled forward, just based on the motion of the passer and his arm. The thing that gets me is there is a ref standing almost directly to the side of this whole thing, with a perfect view of the play, and he appears to indicate that everything was okay, or at least he doesn't throw a flag. It was a fitting ending, I guess, to a horribly officiated game.
