Matt Campbell at ISU is a prime example. In two years he has taken the Clones from a doormat to a top twenty five rated team winning at Oklahoma and Texas Tech. He replaced Paul Rhodes who grew up in Ankeny thirty miles down the road who previously coached at Ames. Rhodes was supposed to know the culture needed but flopped. Lesson to be learned: get the best young coach out there, let him bring in HIS staff and do his job.

I wish we knew if Scott Frost was a good coach! Maybe after USF he’ll become a good coach!
He seems to have a plan that is working. The point I was trying to make is you can have a successful coach at an institution without that coach having previous ties to that school. Nothing against Scott. My point is to be successful, you don't have to go out and pay $5M, the coach doesn't need to have previous ties or be a national name. The coach needs to have a plan and a staff that HE trusts to teach and recruit to that plan. Heck Nebraska took a chance once before. His name was Bob Deavany

He should be an up and comer, unless he’s Urban Meyer or Nick Saban. He should not be one of those up and comers who don’t pan out because he doesn’t know how to run a big program.

He should be one of those up and comers who is guaranteed to succeed.

There are no guarantees no matter who we hire. Campbell and Brohm are doing ok, but they might also just be a flash in the pan. I want Frost, but his current success might not translate to here either. A "sure thing" big name coach isn't coming here. I guess Chip Kelly is possible but from my perspective that is all just pure speculation based on the fact he used to be at Oregon and is currently unemployed.

All of this though is why I favor Frost. He would be a popular hire, is currently enjoying success as a head coach, and has links to the State. All of that adds a certain stability to the situation.

And if he is successful, he could be here for the remainder of his career. Others, if successful, may be more likely to leave.

There was a heck of a lot more history to go on with Campbell than there is on Frost. It's a lot easier to take a shot on a young coach when he has 5 years of HCing to look at compared to 1.5
