this loss today goes to show that anybody can beat anybody on any given Saturday. You must be ready mentally to play each week. The good news is that the defense is playing better. Lets not get into the 'fire Mike Riley' mode. The last thing this program needs is to go into transition again with a new coaching staff.

I promise you. We will get our asses handed to us for most of the year. However, he will have his one HUGE Riley upset against either Purdue or Minnesota and people will.........Oh. Forget it.
Huskers certainly have their issues but I think this team can get better under Riley. He needs more time.

NIU's QB was their backup QB, Diaco's defense was handed a lead and promptly let the other team march down the field to take the lead back.

As much as anything this is a transition year. New defense new quarterback young group of players. 2018 looks very good. I fully expect Nebraska to win the Big Ten West.
I think most of us can agree that we like Riley. As a person, he's top shelf. As a coach, and I'd love to see him turn things around and have a 9/10 win season, he just lacks the ability to raise the bar.
I wish I could say I believe that but I don't. This was not a good team that Nebraska lost to today. In year 3 you should be beginning the climb back up with year 4 being the typical breakthrough year. How often do you see a staff suck in year 3 and wind up doing anything of relevance at that school?
We were sold this hire as a way to put Nebraska over the top and it wasn't a major rebuild job. Then year 1 happens and it's suddenly a rebuild. Now it's year 3 and still no tangible improvements. I would ask what unit has significantly improved since his staff took over? Also having essentially the same winning percentage as you did at the last job just tells me he is who he is.
Colorado's coach is doing ok after a rough start there. He's in year five, but a few seasons ago, it wasn't looking too good. I think Riley will be around next year as well. All you can do is hope like hell they can turn it around. Right now, that doesn't look promising.
