Diaco to Coach linebackers

If they do indeed go to a 3-4 defense, it's not uncommon to split up the outside and inside LBs into two coaching groups.
My goodness. Is the local press as bad in other markets as it is here? "Hey Coach, what was it like to get fired?" "Hey Coach, what about Bo Pelini?" "Hey Coach, did you have any other job offers?" Poor guy probably tendered his resignation after the presser due to the fact that our media is full of a bunch of morons.
I would assume they split LB. Pretty common in the 3-4.
I'm sure the last 4 coaching staffs and last 3 AD's can at least all agree on one thing. Local media in Nebraska is a pathetic joke.
I listen to things like that and I can't help but think, "You had several DAYS to come up with questions to ask, and that's what you came up with?".... Just lazy.
I would think bray would jump at the chance. Two or three years with a guy like this and he can probably go nearly wherever he wants and be a dc. As said this isn't uncommon in a 3-4 and Stewart ended up a DC (albeit at a smaller school but still) doing similar things last year in the secondary.
Assuming at least decent success at any rate... I don't see the negative. He gets exposure to another defense from a top end defensive mind and fills in some coaching gaps he might have. Win win win.

Nope. Just that he was about to leave a week ago. Now Diaco is coaching linebackers, why stick around.
You go from 3 linebackers to 4. Their responsibilities are vastly different. Diaco just said that "on the grass" you have to split the outside and inside linebackers. Meaning somebody is going to coach inside and somebody is going to coach outside. We're going from 4 D linemen to 3 and their roles are intimately related. Our linebackers need all the attention they can get from Diaco as their roles change probably the most of any position. I expect us to hire another DB coach to split the safeties and corners. This is going to be fun to watch. This is a GREAT opportunity for Bray to learn the 3-4 from a very successful D coordinator and improve his value going forward as a DC. He would be foolish to leave IMO.

Alabama currently splits LB's. Aranda was D.C. and ILB coach at Wisconsin and Diaco was D.C. and ILB coach at ND. If we hire a safeties coach, we won't have a single coach on the D coaching more than three players on the field at a time. Pretty ideal.

Perhaps Bray will take over extra Special Teams coaching in addition to LB
Ridiculous idea. In order for Nebraska to play special teams at the level they've been accustomed to the last couple years, the coach needs to be focused on ST only.
Thanks for clearing up, I missed some of the presser.. Was hoping Bray would help coach the LB position.
He is one of our younger better coach's on Riley's staff and a good recruiter.
Rumors floating around the Bray was looking at and perhaps even offered a DC position at a smaller school.
Bray could fully embrace learning under Diaco, but it appears its not like he hasn't thought about striking out on his own and maybe even had the opportunity. Some Rivals board thoughts about "what exactly has Bray done to prove himself" aside.
He has recruited some good LBer's in the system and I will give him that.. LBer wasn't our weakest position by far it was the defense rush ends which we haven't had in a while as recruiting fell under that portion under Pelein recruting after Moss left and the JP hadn't or hasn't landed the big fish since this is his first full year recruiting the position.
Another thing to keep in mind by Husker nation is Diacos comments the other day. I believe he said something to the effect of you are a 4-3 or a 3-4 guy, you don't tend to cross pollinate. This mechanic was key point by Riley as to why we needed to look at someone besides Banker in addition to the production.
For JP this would matter less, he's played in both systems and is a Husker to the core. ForDW this would seem to matter less as most of the 3-4 guys seem to indicate secondary play doesn't change radically behind the front.
Bray sort of faces a professional crossroads where he's going to have to figure what he prefers, broadening his base of knowledge here or just continuing to be a 4-3 guy, perhaps as the boss.
Great opportunity for Bray to add to his resume working with a new system after working in Bankers system for so long. Can't be anything but a positive without having to relocate.
