Congrats man it feels great I bet. I ran into the same thing a year and a half ago (maybe a little longer). One day I realized how pathetic I was and made a lifestyle change. I completely changed my diet and started exercising. I have lost around 160 pounds and still losing. I'm now at 6' 3" 225 and I have no desire to ever go back to my old bad habits. People always tell me if I'll eventually quit and gain it back which might help with the motivation more.

Well, I wasn't that bad that I could lose 160 pounds (congrats BTW!). I tell everyone about my progress and that helps keep me motivated. Poor planored has me texting him my progress and workout results. I never did any before pics. I have plenty of pics that showed my fatness, but no body shots (if you know what I mean). When I hit 50 pounds I felt like that was good enough, but really wanted to have more muscle. I don't need to be Arnold or anything like that. Just to be better than I was before. Know what I mean? I would still need to lose more than 20 pounds just to get back to my weight when I left the military. Of course, that was a young skinny guy that I was. I'm comfortable with old man boxes. It's great just to touch my toes again!

Way to go boxes. It's a great thing to be able to say that you climbed the mountain on your own. Great job and congrats!

Update time. I've been on/off with the workouts at times. Went through the passing of my wife and countless other hardships. I kept the workouts going. At the beginning of 2025, I decided to get back to a regular exercise routine. I did one cardio five times a week. Three months in, I added in weights four times a week. Three more months and I'm doing two cardios a day and weights four times a week. A year in, I drop the weights to three times a week.

I hadn't weighed myself in a while. I got to 146. I was like no way. That's one pound above my Navy weight. I fluctuate and I'm at 151. I get a cold a few months ago. 2 1/2 weeks of fatigue. I get maybe two cardios in that time. Finally, I feel better. I get back at it. Last week, I notice that I'm looking better in the mirror. I weigh myself for S&G. 143. No way. I now weigh less than my Navy weight. Lowest in 32 years. Yesterday, I weigh myself again. 141. I'm now 75 pounds less than my fattest.

I honestly don't care about the weight at this point. I'd rather just be more fit. I have a little belly. It sags. LOL. The inside of my thighs look like Abe Simpson. That's what I get for letting myself go (that and getting older). Here's to me and a lot of effort and willpower!

One of the things I've noticed today, is that my elbows are bonier. And it hurts when I whack them on metal as I pass them. Anyone else noticed this as they've lost weight?

Free weights and some machines are your friends, try to keep all the muscle you have, don't let them deteriorate. Also, keep more upright than sitting, standing and moving are a must as you get older.

First off, how you can be that weight with the unbelievable pizza you make is beyond me. I would weigh 300 pounds. I am in decent shape and we are about the same age. But now that you mention it, when i get leaner, my elbows hurt like crap when I barely bang them. The skin is getting thinner and more sensitive. Losing weight is great. Getting old sucks. I would go on about other issues, but I'm pretty sure you know what I am talking about.

Well, I'm just getting to the weight I'm supposed to be. I keep banging my elbows lately and it hurts like mad. I'm thinking there's something wrong with me and then the light bulb goes off over my head. There's no fat protecting my elbow bone now. I'm turning 60 in November. I've got lots to complain about. I love all the bad things. Including alcohol. I guess it's more about less of the things that are bad for you and more of the things that are good for you. Keep active and maintain your weight. I'm going to go pick up a Philly cheese steak on the way home from work tonight. It's all about that diet!

I do weights three times a week. My job is also physical for 8 hours a day. I'm constantly standing and moving, lifting and bending, lunging and reaching. And I don't have a problem with any of it. It's because I cardio twice a day and lift weights. The stuff I do at work is nothing compared to that. All the 19-year-olds are wondering why they can't keep up with me. They need to cardio!

Not someone else. Me. Boxes.

Last fall, stood on the scale one day and said, "No more." I kept buying bigger pants. Reached limit as I was stretching out that last pair of pants. Decided that I needed to change.

I know that to get in great shape you need to put in a lot of time. I couldn't do the four hours a day. After all, I have work and all the responsibilities around the home that take up most of my time. I remember when I was at Navy boot camp and they got us up early and we kept at it until we went to bed for the night.

So, I vowed to get up an hour earlier each day. That gives me time to wake up and to get a cardio in. I have a treadmill. I walk on it for at least 30 minutes a day. After warming up for ten minutes I slowly up the incline a degree every minute until I'm at 10% incline. After a couple of minutes I start lowering the incline until I'm back at zero. That gives me a couple of minutes to cool down. I did that for a couple of weeks and then started doing a longer second cardio on my days off. Eventually, I was sometimes doing three a day. All the while watching tv, texting or surfing internet on my tablet. And the pounds came off.

I gave up my beer entirely until I lost the first 16.5 pounds. Bought myself a six-pack. When I finished that it was back on the wagon until I got to my next goal, another 15 pounds. I started working in some weights into my routine. Eventually, I was doing weights 2-3 times a week.

Although I pretty much eat whatever I want, I am eating healthier. Been buying mostly fresh produce, lean meats and high-fiber cereal. Snacking on raisins, prunes, walnuts, almonds and greek yogurt. It's great to be able to eat a bacon cheeseburger and still lose weight!

Had my annual physical in January. Cholesterol is within acceptable range. HDL is above their good range. Triglycerides are rock bottom. Blood pressure is 97/53. Resting heart rate at 49.

I hit 50 pounds of weight loss at the end of February. Been holding steady since then. Drink a couple of beers and I'm now such a lightweight. I started buying protein powder to supplement my diet to help improve my BMI. Dropped from 25% to 15%.

Bounding up stairs and darting around corners like I'm 20 years younger.Threw away my fat pants about three months ago. Fitting in clothes that I haven't worn in over 15 years. Bought some 33W shorts last month that are starting to fall off my butt. Eff yeah. Feels good man.
Congrats man. Has to feel good, just walking around. How much younger do you feel?
