For those that have built-in or connected while house generators, which brand do you recommend?

Don't know what brands that were involved, but I know of two families whose generators did not come on. Yeah they both had come on every week for the test run, but when needed after the storm they didn't.

I recommend going to tigerdroppings and seaching the OT and Home/Garden boards for generators. Tons of information. There are a lot of factors to consider, how big, air-cooled or not, most reliable, easiest to change oil, etc. If you need something immediately, Costco has a tri-fuel Firman usually for $799 ish. Obviously, likely in short supply at the moment. Also, look into an "soft start" system for your HVAC.
