The water treatment plant’s problems are caused by not giving Jackson residents enough money, and it was probably the husband and nanny that killed the water plant anyway. Not a chance any of this is caused by failed elected officials and the people who keep voting for them. No sir, it’s definitely racism causing this problem. If only there was some nation wide, world wide, or historical events we could learn from.

Jackson is a $300 million enterprise yet its leaders lack any management experience.

And what's even worse is, nobody cares. It's all about giving good paying jobs to friends and cronies, instead of to qualified people.

^^^ This. Look around the metro at local governments. For the most part, and outside of two outliers, you will find properly functioning public services, relatively safe communities, and halfway decent quality of life. The two outliers are Jackson/Hinds County and Canton. The school systems track the same.

It comes down to leadership and management skills. Neither Jackson/Hinds County nor Canton have capable leaders.

We have media in this state that provides entertainment news for a nice profit. We don't have journalists working to uncover all the **** going down. No money in that.

Media is about sensationalizing for agendas and division to drive clicks/views. They've become an arm of the political system itself. There's no research or fact finding. It's all opinion and politics now.

Only mayor Jackson had in the last 25 years that even attempted this was Chockwe Sr., and we know how that turned out. As radical as he was, he actually was smart and realized he needed help. His son? Fart. All the radicalism but none of the sense.

This is an excellently researched and well-written article for the most part. Would possibly be eligible for syndication and/or an investigative journalism award if not for one thing. It badly needed an editor to give it a final glance. There are a couple of phrases in there that needed to be redacted and actually made me cringe a little when I read them. Not only that, but those phrases alone will be all that skeptics need to see to disregard the whole article.

But honestly, it’s really well done overall.

I always wondered if Jackson would benefit from a City Manager style government instead of the mayor having most or all executive power. It would at least give the council an opportunity to choose someone capable of managing a big organization instead of a figurehead who may or may not (usually the latter) know what to do.

I mean the current setup hasn't been working for decades, maybe it's time to try something different.

We have two decent media outlets in this area, Jackson Jambalaya and Mississippi Today. What do they have that our supposed major news outlets don't have? Local ownership. The C-L and our TV media are all owned by multinational conglomerates who have no actual stake in this area other than using these as profit generating units that ship that profit out of state. Most of the reporters who work for JJ & Ms Today USED to work at one of our supposed major media outlets but were either run off or left on their own due to budget cuts.

The fact that Lumumba kept the EPA warning a secret is, IMHO, a near criminal offense. He deliberately allowed tainted water to go to HIS constituents. Couple this with the gross mismanagement of numerous public works departments just shows how unqualified the management of Jackson has become. The decent folks in Jackson need to wise up as to what their leadership is doing to them.

The best outcome for Jackson and Mississippi would be that ALL individuals involved in Jackson's water mismanagement AND the TANF funds debacle be removed from office and not allowed to work in that sector ever again.

In the short term, Jackson would benefit from a Receiver who is appointed by a federal magistrate or bankruptcy judge. Until the situation is forced such that the current elected leadership has no legal authority/control, nothing can be fixed.
