OT: Paying Shohei Ohtani

Do you make him the highest paid player in history? He's a A+ tier pitcher (could be S tier if it was his focus) and he could hit 40+ homers and have 125 rbi at the end of the year. Only knock is his BA is a little low this year. His K/9 is elite tho.

WTH do you pay this dude? He's a beast.

You could easily argue he's a $50M/year player. 25M as a pitcher and 25M as a hitter.

Yeah I'd love for the Cubs to sign him, he's amazing. Otherwise, I'd just love for him to get on a contender in the Central/East time zone so I could see him play more.

Yeah I heard this talked about on a sports show and it's a good point. His agent has gotta be pushing for him to be paid based off both. His ERA is 2.44 which is top 10-20 among starting pitchers and he's currently 15th in HR's this year. Could be and probably should be the highest paid player

Hypothetical question I brought up to some of my buddies….

Lets say Ohtani wins the Cy Young award and also leads the league in HR’s in the same season….either this year or next year (not sure if either is possible this year). Then, he retires and never plays again. Is he a first ballot hall of famer based on that accomplishment alone?

I'd highly doubt it, but that's far more to do with how baseball votes on HOF than Ohtani's relative merit.

He would get my vote. I honestly think he’s already in discussion for the HOF if he retired today. Baseball writers march to their own beat though. He was the first player to be in the All-Star Game as a pitcher and a hitter.

I don’t know how you keep him out if he puts up another couple years like 2021, and 2022 is well on pace. He’s among the MLB leaders in K’s and HR’s again.
