Following! Also, does the Insignia have any way to mount it from underneath? A 1/4" screw hole like for a tripod mount for example? I have a Rago dash mount in my Tundra set up to use Ram Mounts that is currently unused but would prefer to move the dash camera and radar detector to it. The detector is proving difficult to mount from the bottom, however. And I don't want wires hanging everywhere from up top.

Don't need them in Brandon and Pearl. They have cameras every where.

Do you have an old iPhone that is still functional? Remove the SIM card and there are several free apps that you can download that turn it into a dash cam. Buy a suction cup phone mount and your set. You already have the charge cord. You can subscribe to the service that will save everything to the cloud but if I want to save anything I just take the phone to WiFi and email the video to myself.

The app I use is called Smart Dash Cam. It has multiple features.

I have zero judgment for anyone using dash cams, I get all the completely legit concerns. It's just UGH I really don't want to have to live with that much surveillance. The same is true for me with doorbell & household cameras, again fully acknowledging all the reasons folks have them.

It's almost like, how far away are we all from wearing body cams?

A lot of older iphones have limited storage, does it record over old videos?
This app saves them in ____ minute blocks, you designate the time, until the memory is full and then records over the oldest block. I routinely delete the old videos when I’m sitting in a parking lot waiting on the Mrs or before we start a longer trip. This one can be set to record on impact or motion but I usually activate it manually.

I don’t use it for my daily driver usually. I started using it in my Motorhome, people don’t realize they are playing Russian roulette when they merge twenty feet in front of a 40000 pound vehicle and slam on their breaks. I can’t slow down or stop nearly as fast as little Buffy in her Camry.

Went to lunch w/ coworker about 6 months ago and while returning another driver drifted over into our lane and sideswiped us while obviously holding a cell phone up above the steering wheel and looking at it. My coworker got out hollering what the 17 were you doing, put the damn cell phone down idiot etc etc. She said "I was trying to avoid you hitting me!" He says "really? Ok tell that exact same story to the officer when they get here and then I'll show them the dashboard camera replay of what really happened and we'll see what the officer says to you then." When the cop got there she had totally changed her story based on his comment about the dashboard camera, WHICH HE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE, but the threat of it made her change her story. Made me think about getting one but I haven't yet.

I'm not sure I get all the concerns. They are definitely useful for work vehicles for liability protection. Is that all individuals are using them for also? Or are they for something else?

I get the concern, but as long as access to the video is dispersed, I don't have a lot of heart ache over it. If there is a crime in our neighborhood, I like that police can go access footage taken by neighbors. I've also seen cameras stop a lot of scam artists trying to make frivolous claims against individuals and businesses. I do not want everybody subject to surveillance, which some programs giving LEOs access to private footage does, and which is also accomplished by some cameras put up by governments.

I can't tell you a good one, I have a horrible one.

And yet, I still like it.

Everything I do is recorded, I started driving safer myself. I slowed my *** down because everything I do is recorded. Over the past 3 years or so that I have had it, I was glad a few times to back to see how something happened or some idiot on pulling out or passing double yellow etc...

I like mine. I did mute the sound recording, I tend to curse idiots at times and I didn't want that recorded.

I wouldn’t want it for a personal vehicle but I’ve considered getting it for our semis. You would not believe the **** we see with people swerving in front of or just total lack of respect for a big truck.

I have them in all the vehicles my teenage sons drive. Highly recommend them as a deterrent, at a minimum. I hope the boys don't do all of the stupid crap that I did when I was a teen driver in rural MS.

My favorite one has both forward and rearward (inside the vehicle) views. Bought it off of newegg on sale last holiday season, don't remember the brand but it was about $80.

I can pretty much guarantee you that they will pay for themselves. Drivers hate it but catching one car pulling in front and slamming on the break will pay for a lot. With the right system, you can also catch bad drivers before they cost you big.

Driving a moderate amount on interstates, I completely believe it. And to your point, we have cameras at our business. Still, it just makes me uncomfortable as hell especially considering it seems like it's advancing steadily into personal space/lives.

I've got 4 outside my house (none inside) plus a doorbell one that all alert me on my phone to loud sounds or motion. I didn't have any desire for one but my daughter gave us a couple and I've bought the rest because I like having them on duty now. The only thing I've seen of any consequence was a couple contractors eating lunch on my patio and one walks over to my beer fridge and fixes himself something to drink, no big deal, but then goes back for my beer. With my cameras I could talk to them and he just about pooed his britches when I called him out on it, he had no idea I was watching. He apologized profusely later as did his boss who was on a parts run. Daytimes pretty boring (thank goodness) but at night I've seen deer, coons, snakes, cats & dogs, cars pull in my driveway, etc

It’s the world we live in now where people will file a lawsuit over the littlest things. You have to protect yourself from some people taking advantage of the system.
