My One Gripe

SIAP. I told myself I wasn’t gonna do this but after the elation has eased a bit, I just want to make one complaint amongst what could be more from the booth.

Last night, Will Bednar pitches a gem, and then we bring in the big gun. Something was happening that everyone in sports knows you DONT 17ING TALK ABOUT while it is happening, yet Karl Ravech just could not keep his damn mouth shut about the no hitter until it was finally broken up.

I know, it’s petty, we won and I have shed my tears of joy, but damn, besides KP is that really the best college baseball can get?

All I know is KP and Ben McDonald need to be in the booth for every major college baseball game. They are the best, and it's not close.

Ravech has always been terrible. He must work on the cheap so ESPN keeps him around. And does he call ANY college baseball throughout the year other than Omaha?

Play by play guys talk about every no hitter. The color analysts may be a little more superstitious... By your logic every no hitter would come as a surprise at the end of the 9th....

Ravech is one of the best in the business and has been for a long time. Eduardo is a goob. KP is great. There are not many better options you can roll out on a national stage of college baseball that will do better.

Exactly. The correct application of the superstition is that players / fans of the team throwing the no-no are not allowed to speak of it. Announcers always do.

Perez is the worst, hands down, no comparison, no argument. I don't know about now but he never did any college games either until the Series

Jim didn't mention it until it happens. He made one reference in the 5th about "not mentioning something."
This is why you never EVER listen to an ESPN broadcast. Watch the game and turn down the sound. ALWAYS.

I do remember one time that I broke it though. My team was in the dugout and our pitcher had completed 7 innings of no hit ball. The pitcher was sitting by himself and normally he was not the type to need to isolate when he pitched. So he was looking around wondering why no one was sitting by him or talking to him. So I walked over and said "Dude, you know you have a no-hitter going?" He looked at me and laughed. He did finish it.

Agreed. Perez gets the press but Ravech is the irritating one to me... He presents as such a know it all... at least Perez actually played and knows the game. He just can't shut up... But Ravech says a lot of underhanded stuff that gets a pass...

Nah announcer or no announcer you don't talk about the no-no till it's thru 6, Ravech started hinting at it in the middle of the 4th inning and then finally said it after the 3rd out was recorded to end the 4th. MLB Network & Dan Plesac woulda kicked him out the booth for starting the jinx that early. Only thing Ravech did last night that bothered me but I was bitching about him bringing attention to it that early. Some people just enjoy bringing attention to jinxes.

I'd rather listen to someone who doesn't get paid to spew a lot of unnecessary and inane comments or drone on about some mom, Dad, or girlfriend in the stands.

As Dudy Noble told Jack, "who's got the ball and what's score... cut out the ********." Jim is great at no ********.

I like Jim, too. I was simply commenting on why the ESPN announcers commented on the no-hitter, while Jim did not. ESPN announcers are neutral, regardless of what you want to believe.

As much as I rail on Eduardo Perez, I was very happy to hear him make the recruiting pitch about how we take care of our pitchers during the top of the 7th or so. Our pitching was still elite and Bednar was able to throw on 3 days rest because our coaching staff made those investments all season long to not overwork those guys. I’d say it paid off.

I have one gripe and one gripe only...we took Bednar out between innings to go to Sims and didn't allow Bednar a chance to receive a standing O for his performance. I would've liked to let him throw a few warm ups with Lemonis standing at the line letting our fans know to get on their feet for the kid. Then taking him out...just felt like he deserved to have that on that stage

He called a Super Regional this year. That was the only games he did. I remember Tweeting at him that it was about time he did at least ONE college game before the CWS. Embarrassing for ESPN that they have him and Perez in the spotlight.

I’m with you, but I think Lemonis wanted to keep everything as normal as possible and players focused until the last out. With a 9 run lead, we probably could have risked it, but that’s my guess at what he was thinking.
