https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...vaccinated-nearly-all-lifted-fully-vaccinated
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/31646241/minnesota-vikings-mike-zimmer-unvaccinated-face-tough

Per the memo, any player who is not fully vaccinated will continue to be subject to:

  • Daily testing, mask wearing (including in the team facility) and physical distancing
  • A quarantine if he has a high-risk exposure to someone with COVID-19
  • Significant restrictions when traveling, including required isolation in the team hotel and relegation to a separate team plane
  • A prohibition of meals with teammates
  • A prohibition on social, media and marketing sponsorship activities
  • A ban on gathering with more than three other players away from the team facility
  • A requirement to wear personal protective equipment to visit a nightclub or indoor bar that has more than 10 people in it
  • A ban on attending indoor concerts or other entertainment events.
  • A five-day delay between first reporting to training camp and participating fully in activities.

Vaccinated players will face none of those restrictions. They will be required to be tested once every 14 days.

"They are going to be wearing masks, they're going to have to social distance, they'll have daily testing," Zimmer said. "They won't go home for bye week and have to come back here and test every day. When we go on the road, they won't be able to go out to dinner with anybody. They'll have to travel on buses differently and travel on planes differently, so a lot of meetings will be virtual like we have here."

tldr- Unvaxxed players will fly in separate planes, not be able to eat with teammates, not participate in sponsorship activities, be tested daily, and not be allowed to go home during the bye week. Thats certainly some motivation to be vaxxed- both financial and social motivation.

Idiotic, ridiculous and unnecessary. Pretty typical of anything coming from the league office and player's union. Easy to see why the majority of players, per espn radio guy, are against this

My doctor told me that it is the safest vaccine ever created. I don't know if that's true but he said it and even explained why.

Are people scared or something? I don't get it. I think it's the fake news and lies on social media that created this anti-vax movement and then tied it to a political movement.

This shouldn't be political. Both parties, Trump and Biden not only endorsed getting it but both got the vaccine themselves. So why are people scared of it?

My hypotheses is it's a combination of a lack of education/critical reasoning skills, and also people who have very little control in what happens to them daily; this is something they can control. Sadly, it's similar behavior to self-harm in that way.

Exactly. Workplaces have the right to create an environment they feel is safe for other co-workers. Nothing wrong with the guidelines the NFL put out.

People are just weird when it comes to vaccines

it triggers all kinds of worst case scenario thoughts in their heads. I was surprised to read that Japan is one of the most vaccine skeptical countries in the world, even more so than the US, which surprised me given how much technological innovation has come from there in the last 50 years. I was in GNC the other day and there was a lady in there talking to the store clerk. She was telling him all the stuff she read about the vaccines on social media as far as the ingredients and what the long term effects would be and that there was no way she'd ever get another vaccine whether it was Covid or the flu. Her entire thought process was based on social media talking points and she never once mentioned the data the CDC had compiled from all the shots given to date. I guess that's more vaccines for the rest of the world because we've hit a wall in America in terms of people who are in a vulnerable age group that are willing to ignore all the nonsense.

Talking **** on the vaccine at the GNC is next-level.

Rightly or wrongly some people worry about the long term ramifications on which no one can authoritatively speak seeing as the vaccine has only been around for such a short time. Could the vaccine affect fertility in men or women, for instance? I’m vaccinated but I’m at slightly higher risk than a 25 year old, but if I’m a young person to which covid poses almost zero risk, why get it if there’s even a infinitesimal chance it could have serious ramifications?

If I’m a cautious player who isn’t sure about the vaccine, the question I would ask is, why do vaccinated people need to be protected from unvaccinated people? And will we be having these same rules for the flu vaccine which is much more dangerous for younger people than covid is?

This seems like something a lawyer could have a field day with.

Dolphins and Saints are the only two teams with over 85% of their players vaccinated so far.

If you take every conceivable measure of risk with the vaccine, and measure it against known outcomes of covid - one side is far heavier than the other.

If you are truly curious, here is some reading on your second paragraph: https://www.cidrap.umn.edu/news-per...covid-vaccine-uptake-may-protect-unvaccinated

The NFLPA agreed to this.
The majority of players are against it? I would be curious to see that poll. I wonder what a majority of players support, if not this. This allows more people to move freely without restrictions than before. That seems like something players would support, in general.

So the person who doesn’t feel the vaccine is safe is just SOL then? See personal safety works both ways.

Well the NFL is not forcing players to get the vaccine. Just forcing players to adhere to certain safety measures.

I have been vaccinated. However, this is a personal choice. I don't care if Montez Sweat sits next to me on a plane. If he is infected with Covid, so what? I'm vaccinated. He chose to risk himself, big deal. Why does the government care whether Montez Sweat or Sean Hannity or Dave Grohl get vaccinated or not? Its available and if people want it they will get it. Any one who is vulnerable needs to get it. I got it, its easy to get. All you have to do is walk in a Wal-Mart its not that hard, and we certainly don't need to segregate unvaccinated people. They won't hurt me or others who are vaccinated. We tried segregation once, it didn't work lets move on.

Because the FDA has not fully approved the vaccine, it's only an emergency approval at this point.

Fauci and the CDC constantly keep moving the goal posts and changing their positions on almost anything related to COVID-19.
The made it political to get Trump out and now it's coming back to bite them in the ***.

I give a big WTF to these.
So you can't get a paid sponsorship if you are not vaccinated?

Any of you ever thought about the possible long-term ramifications of these vaccines? Everyone was in such a rush to get a vaccine out (that they say may not even keep you from getting the virus) that they haven’t even gotten FDA approval yet nor have they seen the long-term effects.

It’s even more weird how you all are shaming and want to force people to get the vaccine. Why? It won’t hurt you if you’re vaccinated. You’re now “protected”. How does it hurt you if other’s aren’t vaccinated?

This is the world we live in now though. Everyone must believe in the same things or be ridiculed or shunned. I wonder if an arm badge is next.

And here’s a link to an article an]bout the effects the vaccine is having on a very small group of vaccinated people. There is risk with the vaccine. This is just what we know after less than a year. And for the record, I’m not an anti-vaxer. I’m just for know long-term effects.

Lastly, it’s curious how the virus came from China and now China is the major player in vaccine production. Coincidence?

They are NOT infecting anyone who is vaccinated. Why do you or anyone get to tell them what to do? I like Freedom as long as their choice doesn't hurt others, NEWSFLASH it doesn't. Who cares.

Also, there already is zero reason not to move around freely. Vaccinated or not

Its a pandemic of a novel virus- as more is learned, positions change. As infection rates fluctuate, positions change.
Its crazy that people think we should know everything about a brand new outbreak and therefore not have to adjust policies and procedures as more info is learned.

Almost as crazy is someone thinking this was politicized to get Trump out of office. Trump politicized it with his lies, mis-speaking, and blaming. He continually incorrectly claimed it would just disappear once it became warm, or that he didnt want the numbers to go up because he liked them where they were, or that its basically the flu, or that testing was readily available for anyone that wanted it.
Trump lit a fire ring around him and the media chose to not turn on a hose.

But this thread is about the NFL and what to expect as the most popular sport in America starts back up in a couple months.

Stop trying to speak truth to the vaccine mob. They’re the same that believed the masks would keep them safe. The vaccine argument is even a bigger jump since the vaccine supposedly keeps you from getting it when they warn us that it is only supposed to lessen the effects.

If you want the vaccine then by all means get it, but what's wrong with people not wanting to? They're not neglecting to get it out of laziness, but out of a personal health decision. It's totally fine for people to say that they'd rather take their chances with the virus, than with vaccines that were developed faster than any other vaccines in human history, one of which had to be paused due to adverse reactions, and two of which involve a methodology that has never been applied to the mass population before (RNA).

If your argument is that "We all have to do our part and make a sacrifice for the greater good" aren't you then suggesting that there is some sacrifice involved in getting the vaccine, meaning there is an element of risk? Obviously there is an unknown, so why begrudge people for not trusting that its safe? I know its so hard to believe that big corporations and the government might not have everyone's best interests at heart.

Also, if everyone got the vaccine, there would be no one left for you to condescendingly lecture. Just stick your "I'm vaccinated” pin right next to your "I voted" pin and leave everyone be.

If a player is prematurely retired from myocardial problems, what’s that law suit gonna look like?

If a player can successfully argue that his career was harmed because he chose not to be vaccinated and therefore was a second class citizen in league or didn’t get attention vaccinated players received, how is the league not on the hook for discrimination?

The same people who are hesitant about vaccines get put on jury duty.

Again, I’m vaccinated. But if someone is cautious, they should have room to be cautious as they are only putting themselves at risk. Seems like a bad idea to me.

People are free to make their own personal choices, but they're not free from the consequences of those choices. The NFL is extending a huge olive branch to the anti-vaxxers by making accommodations that allow them to play at all.

How are those who CHOOSE to not get vaccinated hurting ANYONE who is vaccinated? Why do so-called "liberals" not believe in freedom anymore? Get vaccinated or not it is your choice, and everyone has a right to not be DISCRIMINATED against at work, its called the Equal Employment Opportunity Act.
