I feel like he could be an X Factor for us in Omaha, especially if we could use him out of the pen. Are the games spread out far enough from game 1 to game 3 to where we might have that luxury, or will we be forced to hold him for a game 3 start? I'm just thinking a Bednar/Hooty combo game 1 then MacLeod/Johnson combo game 2 with Sims closing each might be a recipe for success.

The recipe for success is our bats. Our pitching will be fine. We can't go out there looking stupid like we did against Owen and Rocker in 2019 and expect to win. We also don't have to score 10.

It works fine if you stay in the winner’s bracket. It sets you up for big problems if you fall to the loser’s bracket and have to play the extra game. If we lost Game 1 without using him, I would hold Harding back and save him as a 3rd starter and not use him in a Game 2. But I would go in with the plan to use Harding in Games 1 and/or 2 to win both. Win Games 1 and 2 by any means necessary.

Harding has proven he can be a reliable 3rd starter for us - what we’ve been searching for most of the season. I don’t think we bring him out of the pen unless we’re desperate.

If you take their approach, then you are saying Hootie sits on the bench until the CWS Finals if we win the first 2 games. I would roll the dice and use Hootie in Games 1 or 2 if we believe he gives us a legit shot to really improve our odds to win the first 2.

Bednar (assuming he throws Game 1) would get the ball again come Friday if we are still playing. Hootie is ONLY starting Game 3 if Game 3 is the loser’s bracket game on Thursday.
