Notre Dame could have easily broken this game wide open early as much as Bednar was struggling. Huge props to him for working out of the bases loaded jam early, and to Johnson for stranding the leadoff double late. And the 4 uncharacteristic error helped keep us in the game. Their batters looked a bit overmatched against Johnson and Sims. 4.2 innings, 2 hits, 5 strikeouts, no walks, and no runs. We've seen their best 2 pitchers and scored 9 runs. Koepner threw close to 80 pitches. He's done for tomorrow and won't be available for much on Monday if it comes to that. It's set up real good for us to make Omaha for the 3rd straight time for the 1st time in MSU history.

I’ve been like that most of the night, thinking how many times this team could have quit. But they got up off the mat like a champ after every blow ND could bring.

Need 6 more wins….

Earlier in the season we played like this when we were racking up win after win. You could just see it in their face that they knew they could pull it out.

Notre Dame has not experienced anything like the crowd we had and it showed with the errors. Read Ricks article when the fans started raising hell when Sims came in and he told James we have the best place in college baseball.

We still have to win one more tough one against a tough team but I hope I don't to use the oi' "BALLGAME" ploy again. It's damned good to know they are back in that mindset they were earlier in the year.

Its also worth noting that after all the defensive struggles earlier, this team has been outstanding the last few weeks. And the batting order that looked shaky early is pretty much locked in, other than #9.

But we ARE good enough to win it all if we both play really well and catch a few breaks along the way….and there’s no shame in that. We might have caught one or two of those breaks today….let’s see how we leverage them going forward.

I was surprised they pulled Bertrand so soon. But I think they are about where they planned to be on pitching - use those two guys in game 1, then it's all hands on deck from here out.

I kind of feel like we took their best shot today and still came out on top. They chased our starter early, used up their two best pitchers, and we still found a way.

Sure we got a little lucky with them booting TA’s ground ball, but we took advantage of it. That’s the benefit of playing well during the season and getting the right to play on your field. If anyone is looking for an apology from us for catching a break they’ll be waiting a long time for one.

And ND caught some breaks too from the home plate ump. He missed a ND player blatantly stepping out of the box on a bunt attempt, which should have been an out. And he called a strike on James that was in the other box, which would have put him on base in front of Tanner’s HR.

OMG, we can't expect to win it all. It's baseball. We are in the Sweet 16, and a half. From here on it's down to bounces and luck. As an aside, we were not expected to be where we are, the Confederates were. As always their hype precedes them.

To me it simply looked like a program with lots of postseason experience playing like it, and also a team with very little postseason experience playing like it. We looked comfortable and we’re able to get through it when something bad happened, ND kind of let those things snowball on them at times, They could very well smoke us the next two days, but I like our chances to get one more win.

We should understand that cause lord knows we’ve been on the other side of that equation so often in football.

Had the ump(s) not sucked ***, that game wouldn't have been close. That terrible foul call cost us runs. Not calling out of the box on the bunt did too. The zone was trash for us. 17 those guys! They were terrible and almost cost us.
