According to posters on rRant, he had made some facility upgrade requests of TCU that fell on deaf ears, and has recently gone through a divorce. He was ready to move on from TCU, yet stay close to his kids. Aggieland appeared the perfect situation to do that. Congrats to aTm. They'll probably be very good sooner rather than later.

Yeah, I know I'm fixing to sound like a huge SEC homer, but I feel like we are a year or two away from having an SEC West Team go like 12-18 in conference, and still probably be one the best 25-30 teams in the country. I think that is you are guaranteed to get in if you are in the top 10% of a texas public school. You can still get in without being in the top 10% of your class, it's just unlikely because it's so competitive and so many sports are taking up by the guarantee to those in the top 10% of their high school class. That was part of whatever scandal they had a few years ago was that political favors were being pulled for admission spots.

Dare I be the wet blanket on everyone's spoogefest of Texas Freaking A&M. They have nearly the same tenure length as each other, with Schloss getting his first job 2 years earlier. Childress winning percentage is .657, vs. Schloss at .679. 2 CWS for Childress, 5 for Schloss. 6 Supers for Childress, 7 for Schloss.

I mean Schloss is technically an upgrade, don't get me wrong. But Childress had them right there. I mean I never thought of them as a team that needed a coaching change, and when they played us earlier this year, they looked well coached, just in a bit of rebuild mode, similar to Arkansas in 2016, and now look where they are. It happens.

This seems to me like A&M doing A&M things, and overspending vs. the result. Just like Jimbo Fisher. The "monster" never materialized in football and it won't in baseball either, at least no more than before.

And TCU has only been on a level playing field for half or less of Schloss’s tenure. They did a lot of their damage while playing in the Mountain West.

And in fairness, I'm sure they had Schloss wrapped up before firing Childress, so the ingredients are there for an upgrade. But it's still very difficult. It has an element of an 'Ole Miss firing Bianco' to it. Even if they hired McDonnell (which would be similar to this A&M hire), an upgrade is still not guaranteed by any stretch.

Only an MSU fan would worry about this. If GoTro is dumb enough to leave State for anything other than a head coaching job, then we really won't be losing anything.
