OT Mare of Easttown

Haven't seen it discussed elsewhere, but if you have HBO Max, Mare of Easttown is some of the better TV I've seen in a long time. If you liked True Detective (not season 2, we don't talk about that) you'll enjoy this one. Kate Winslet just nails the lead role. The accents crack me up; have no idea how accurate they are. Try to avoid spoilers bc you don't see the ending coming.

Just started watching Hacks staring Jean Smart - lots of laughs. She is also real good as the mom in Mare of Easttown.

HBO Max is the streaming service to have for my money. Their content has been on fire since getting in the game. In fact I'd probably drop Netflix if it weren't for my in-laws using the password.

It was well done, I was lusting over that blue bronco.

Also I’m not really a sci-if guy but I thought Lovecraft Country was pretty good.

I read it was one of her biggest accent challenges yet. But, listening to it didn’t make me notice anything. So, I guess she did a great job.

And if you didn’t know it, the girl that played Carrie, Mare’s grandson’s mother, is Kevin Bacon’s daughter.

Why does Hollywood always put the poor or shady folks in cool old cars like that? It’s really unrealistic.

Supposedly her accent is spot on for that area despite sounding like she let her Queen’s English slip out.

And there’s a lot of bad language. No gratuitous sex that I can recall (if any) and not a lot of gruesome violence or anything. Just somber, mostly.

Thanks. We started to watch but we decided to wait until it was over. We've been watching Hacks on HBOMAX and its not been bad. It's actually trying to do something. Lots of woke but lots of poking fun at woke and the Hacks in charge of current humor.
My son is watching Lucifer and he said it was not that good. Good concept and actors but horrible acting.

Until we stop playing baseball there will be no binging. Did see the first teaser trailer for The Boys so I'm hoping some of the shows we were watching "Before Covid" will be coming back soon.

Great show! Finishing episode 7 tonight. So many story lines and plot twists in so few episodes.

Knowing a lot of people from that area, when she say the word water as wudder my mind was blown. Nailed the accent to perfection.

Finished it last week and thought it was excellent. Probably the show I most looked forward to each week.

And Hacks is pretty good, so far, too. Between those two shows and that season of Fargo from a couple years back, it's Jean Smart's world and we're all just living in it.

Just finished it. The only two words that come to mind, "Holy Moly!" Most shows, movies, etc., i can figure out the ending early on, not this one more twists than a dog's hind leg. Wish these writers had written the final two season's of GOT.

Same. I did not guess the ending. My wife is from Philly and the accents in this show are legit (she says Mare and Lori are better than the rest).
