No doubt that everybody hates cowbells and that there are a lot of dumb cheers/chants in college athletics (including our M/W cheer).....but the aside from the aTm milk men, I can't think of anything more cringeworthy than hearing grown men yell Hotty Toddy.

Yeah I get it. I think it’s a little silly, too. But it’s not surprising that you’d hate the chant of your in-state rival more than most other chants. Probably a little bias at play there, don’t you think? Kind of like how maybe most fan bases hate the cowbells, but I bet you Ole Miss fans hate it a little bit more… I bet Auburn fans think Roll Tide is dumber than we do, and Alabama fans think that Eagle is dumb as hell. It’s just how these things work. Fans are dumb, particularly when it comes to their school and rival. They’re dumb enough to actually chant Hotty Toddy and chant “we’re gonna beat the hell out of you” right before Alabama beats them 60-0. And they’re dumb enough to decorate their homes with cowbells. It’s all kind of silly and ridiculous, but it’s OUR silly and ridiculous. Fan is short for fanatic for a reason.

MORE DUMB CHANTS
- Any school's fans that chant OVER-RATED on repeat when their school's team happens to beat a higher ranked school's team.
- BYU playing the children's song 'Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree' when they are winning big is dumb.
- The UF Gator Chomp isnt a chant, but its overused and is an easy thing for opposing fans to mock.
- Maroon is all that Matters. It was short lived as a chant/fan call, but it was still rough.
- Anything the ATM Milkboys do is weird.


As for MSU and OM, its a cripple fight. Neither is exactly incredible.
- Hotty Toddy is dumb. It contains just a bunch of sounds to make it rhyme.
- Maroon White is loved because its ours. To others its just naming some colors then saying that its for sure us who have those colors.

Not to mention it is steeped in controversy.

Boomers were people who pushed for the land of Oklahoma to be taken from Native American Tribe allocation and open up to white settlers. They are also the people who raced into the state to take land on the opening date.
Sooners were people who snuck in and hid, then illegally claimed land before the Land Run.


The university's athletics are named for people who illegally tried to take land during a Land Run.

maroon/white cheers have been loud and awesome.

At football games I have always wondered why we have a cheer where only half the stadium is yelling at a time. Wouldn't it be louder to have everyone yelling at the same time? Just not H-T or calling the hogs.

...after a football opponent was injured and down on the field. Happened once and once only. The mike man at State got in trouble for that one (and should have).

Not a chant, but Georgia's Fight song, a sped up version of the Battle Hymn, always sounds like "I've been working on the Railroad". Drives me crazy.
