So how is everyone feeling about Notre Dame?

About like I felt about VCU when they had outscored their opponent 19-4 and riding a 22-game winning streak coming in to last night. If we screw around and don't play well, they could absolutely beat us. But whether we win or lose is on us, not on them.

They’re a very good team and their batting helmets look dumb as ****. Glad we are hosting. They appear to have a turf pitching mound.

Notre Dame looks good. But (assuming both State and ND win one more game) the Super will be their first game against a regional host. We have played 17 games against regional hosts. We are definitely more battle tested.

ND is very good and was expected to be a top 8 seed. Won the ACC going away this year and have dominated their regional.

Offensively they have a lot of power but also a good bit of swing and miss. Right handed heavy lineup with a couple of switch hitters. Their one left handed hitter in the every day lineup has 20 HRs. If the ball is traveling like it has been the past couple of days, next weekend could be another HR derby.

What makes ND’s numbers impressive is they have played just 43 games and against almost only ACC competition. The ACC was down this year but still probably the third best league in the country.

On the mound basically their entire staff pitches to contact. Very low strikeout numbers and somewhat surprisingly high BB/HBPs for their staff. You don’t see a lot of successful pitching staffs pitch to contact while also having pretty high BB/HBP numbers, but they seem to make it work okay.

Expect to see a bunch of LHPs trying to get weak contact from us. They have played almost no midweeks, so ND doesn’t have much proven depth on the mound. They basically have 7-8 guys that they rely on, which is usually all you need for a super regional anyway. Bertrand is their Friday night guy, and he seems to have great command and eat a lot of innings. If we can get him out around five innings that would help us the rest of the weekend because after the top 4-5 arms, ND struggles to throw strikes.

It’s going to be tough weekend. I think we win, but it won’t be easy and could very well take three games.

I hate them and always have. The fact that the resident sword swallower on this board has their mascot as his handle makes me hate him even more. I want to run bamboo shoots under the fingernails of everyone Notre Dame.

If Notre Dame and Florida were on fire and I only had enough piss to put one of them out, I would flex seal up my dingy and die of sepsis just to watch them both burn.

That's how I feel about Notre Dame.

The crowd could definitely play a factor next weekend, just like it did last night. The toughest environment ND has played in this year was maybe Clemson back in early March. They only played one road series all year against an NCAA tournament team, and that was against three seed UVA back in mid-March.

The ACC is full of solid teams- but they don’t see much elite, top end competition like they will next weekend.

Run differential is so useless in baseball, especially in a tournament setting. Once a team decides they are going to lose a ball game, they go to conserving pitching mode, which leads to a pitcher getting shelled or position players on the mound (see this a lot on MLB). That’s why happy Gilmore’s caddy stayed in the game last night even while he was getting shelled. I’m sure VCU had someone in the pen they felt like could stop the bleeding but why bother when you know you gotta win 3 games in 2 days.

Kind of similar to how I felt about Stanford two years ago. Good team, but playing a Super at The Dude is an entirely different animal. Wouldn’t be shocked if it eats them alive like it did Stanford.

Assuming we both close the deal this weekend, of course.

They are way, way better than VCU. Played 12 series against the ACC, only lost one of them.

Ended up outscoring their opponents 50-5 so assuming we take care of our business tomorrow we will definitely have our work cut out for us next weekend.
