Varies from state to state, I believe. But yes, you should always move over when reasonable to do so (which in rural MS is probably 99% of the time).

Sorry for your loss, a sad and unfortunate situation. Hwy 16, like many rural roads in the 'Sip, has some dangerous stretches. LEOs put their life on the line everyday, even in (should be routine) traffic stops.

So, so sorry for your loss. Very sad. I certainly don't know the circumstances of that accident, but I thought it was law now that you had to move to the left lane when you come upon MDOT workers or Troopers on the shoulder of the road.

It is a sad situation. Sorry for the loss of your friend. On that area of 2 lane road that is Hwy 16, we don’t know if there was on-coming traffic that prevented the first 18 wheeler to move over but that driver was slowing down as he came upon the traffic stop. As I understand it the second 18 wheeler did not see the traffic stop as he was behind the other one and when the first one slowed the second one hit him from behind twisting him into the trooper. I am sure there will be more specific details when the investigation is complete.

im with all you guys, if I see lights or a vehicle on the side of the road ahead of me, I always move over. A simple act of caution to avoid any potential problems.

And on that note stay out of the fast lane unless you’re passing. It’s just too easy, and takes away any potential problems caused by making others lane change wrongly or stacking up traffic. I’m one of those people, I can’t stand a fast lane cruiser...

Very enforced law in Texas especially on the interstates. Sorry to hear this kind of news.

My wife worked with him when he was at the Richland PD as a K9 officer back years ago and she was floored. My brother in law also worked with him briefly when he was a state trooper. He said he was a good guy. Sad just sad.

I’ve always wondered why there isn’t a push to encourage people to pull over in a drive way or something like that, at least on 2 lane roads.

Hated to hear this and sorry you lost your friend. I know several people that knew him and I’ve heard nothing but good things. I understand he has young kids too. I feel terrible for his wife and kids.

When I was headed home from work yesterday I saw an ambulance headed on 55 south with about 20 troopers around the ambulance. I had hoped nothing this bad had happened.

I merged to the left lane on I55 yesterday for a HP had a vehicle pulled over and some ***** flying up behind me was pissed and on my *** until I merged back over. When she moved on past after I got back over to the right...yep, an ole ms tag on her Beamer. I had to just laugh at her ***. I don't think she ever even saw the HP lights was the reason I merged over in front of her. She was several car lengths behind, but was HAULIN ***.
