Yea, I think it’s pretty clear neither UT not A&M are the sleeping giants people thought. I thought Mack Brown was a ****** coach and underachieved. Texas schools have finally convinced me that they don’t have the advantages that it looks like they do.

Yea, I think it’s pretty clear neither UT not A&M are the sleeping giants people thought. I thought Mack Brown was a ****** coach and underachieved. Texas schools have finally convinced me that they don’t have the advantages that it looks like they do.

Just goes to show that huge amounts of money does not necessarily translate to success. I have always thought that we get more bang for the buck, with our limited budget, than the average college sports programs do. Of course, we do benefit greatly from the SEC revenue sharing.

None unless they completely miss. It's Tadlock and Schloss and O'Sullivan first. Then Coach V at TN. Tadlock would be my bet.

I watched the A&M series in person, and I remember being impressed how the team carried themselves. I never saw any attitudes, chirping, or showboating. I don’t know what the issue is there, besides wins and losses, but it looked like a team that respected their coach.

Maybe he’s just too old school for today’s players.

The last century? Hmmm. I’d agree if you said the last decade (yep they have massively underachieved from 2010 to 2020). But between 2000 and 2010, Texas played for two NC’s in football and won one. Almost played for a third during that decade the year Leach’s Tech team with Crabtree beat them on the last play of the game in Lubbock. Jimbo and A&M or anyone else besides Alabama and Clemson would offer their first born for that level of success.

T Boone Pickens gave Oklahoma State athletics $165 million in 2005 and it barely moved the needle for any of their programs. Moderate success in football and that's about it.

No, they just expanded and upgraded the stadium they had. They did rename the stadium for him. He actually gave $70 million in 2003 with $20 million going towards the expansion. Even with the expansion it only seats 55k. The $165 million he gave was on top of the $70 million and was for the football operations as well as some athletic village they were wanting to create.

Compared to whom? Texas won a national title within the past 20 years, and played for another. A&M, I would agree.

I don't compare everyone to Alabama, who is now the greatest dynasty ever, having now passed up Miami. Even Clemson, who is also on an unprecedented run that isn't normal.

20 years is usually my measuring stick. If you've won a title in that period, then you have the staying power to do it again. But, as we all know, things do change over time, usually very slowly. But I also don't see Texas losing ground in any of the metrics needed to field a national title caliber team. They just keep hiring the wrong fits as head coaches.

These are all laughable. Texas couldn't get them, what makes you think A&M can?

History, mainly. All the things that make someone a sleeping giant have already been unearthed at Texas A&M, and they've never done anything except win at women's basketball.

Secondly, the overarching 'weirdness' that is them, turns many people off.

I'm also starting to think the talent pool out there isn't as great as people say. That, or they just aren't tough, or something. Hard to think that with that many people they can't find the great athletes, but it is what it is. Life in modern day Texas is lived indoors now, maybe that has something to do with it.

ETA: Rob Childress is a good coach, by the way. Ole Miss should keep an eye on this, because this is like them firing Bianco, i.e. 80% chance it's going to be pretty damn dumb.
